I have recently installed windows 7 professional on an acer aspire 5680 and having a few problems regarding updating drivers for a few devices (orbicam, touchpad, realtek audio etc.)

Since acer doesn't offer windows 7 compatible drivers for this model, I was wondering if anyone has had similiar problems and found some sort of viable solution(s). Thanks

I have acer aspire 5515 and just used the original ones that were intended for vista for the web cam. Many of the others (touchpad. hotkeys, display/audio) downloaded automatically from Microsoft via windows update upon installation once I had internet.

I have gotten a few of the drivers to install (some of them not well with compatibilty issues) but the the built-in webcam (acer orbicam) is still unspecified, and I can't seem to get any of the drivers listed on the acer website to pick it up.

If it is listed in your device mamager (unspefcified) you can right click on it>properties>details tab>dropdown menu>hardwarei d. Copy and Paste the string and maybe we can find a driver that wil work. Fabe

fabe,

that driver did not yield results, but I did in turn find a solution.

I installed the acer orbicam logitech application using the driver from the acer website, but still no detection of the webcam itself. I then proceeded to have the device manager look for the driver within that folder.

and voila.

I thank you kindly for your help though.

this is the one I used, not sure whether I got it from acer or logitec, make sure you unzip to a folder that you will be able to browse to. I believe I used device manager to update driver, not the self install in the driver package.

x86 driver tag

It's the only file in my drivers folder, when I explore it, there are 2 folders in the driver folder, one is x32, the other is x64. it would seem that the package includes both. I looked around at some other acer laptop drivers with logitech webcams, this seems to be the same driver for every version...cannot find a pure x64 version.
cannot understand if does not work for you, as you can see, it is installed, and I promise that it is working for me. one thought is that the driver install and the software to run the camera may be different? though I can find no acer orbicam properties to find any version number etc.

(sorry for my bad english)
You are right: in the driver folder there is also one called x64. I downloaded and installed it same time ago (it is very old: 2006/2007); but the system crashed (blue screen) until I uninstall it.

I will try again to understand "what" is installed (x86 or x64).
Probably I have to install new bios, also.
And there is also an hardware problem: a bad contact of the webcam (behind the screen); I have to disassemble and fix.

Thanks for information You gave me.
