Acer Aspire 5742 Bluetooth problems...

So I got an Apple bluetooth keyboard through the post today, and was really excited to start using it. However, when trying to add the device by going Start>Devices and Printers>Add a Device, my computer doesn't detect the keyboard at all.

I went into my device manager to see if I could find the problem, but it turns out that there is no bluetooth adapter visible there, nor can I seem to find any drivers on my actual computer. I tried downloading all the bluetooth drivers from the acer website, but none of them seem to do anything...

I'm pretty sure my laptop has bluetooth, as this is what the internet has told me, so I would really appreciate any help at all!

Thanks

Hi maxie, thanks for the reply.

Yeah under System Devices there is something called 'Atheros Bluetooth Bus'.

I'm guessing this means that I should be able to use bluetooth, but it doesn't seem to be working for me.

Windows would usually windows would detect any Bluetooth device ..... But being an Apple device I think you would need software to be able to make it work .... Which i suppose you don't have any ?

I downloaded some software which is required for all the functions to work, but apparently nothing is needed if one just wants to pair it to the computer.

It seems strange, though, because apart from that bluetooth bus under system devices, there is literally nothing else on my computer which is anything to do with bluetooth (that is, until after i tried installing the drivers which don't seem to work...)

You might have to turn on the adapter, or use a switch on your laptop to turn it on if your laptop has one. This might not be called a Bluetooth switch. It might be called a wireless switch, or something similar. If you are unsure about how to turn on the Bluetooth adapter or whether your computer has a built-in Bluetooth adapter, check the manual for your computer or the manufacturer's website.

Well apparently the way of doing this is by holding down fn and tapping f3.

The problem here is that the keyboard on my computer is broken, which is why I currently have an external one and am trying to get this new one to work.

According to this model's specifications it does have built in bluetooth

I cannot see any other way of turning your Bluetooth on except by the keyboard .... Maybe some other member might be able to help you

I have a keyboard, it is a logitech normal keyboard for desktops, which plugs in via USB. My laptop's actual built-in keyboard doesn't work any more. This built in keyboard is the one on which I must press fn+f3 to apparently "activate wireless/bluetooth" on the laptop... Surely there must be a way of activating the laptop's bluetooth adapter through some other means.....
