Acer Aspire D257-13450 Fan "Out of Control"

A friend of mine purchased this computer from a Wal-Mart about a year ago. I have noticed that ever since re-installing windows onto this computer, the fan speed is running at (what seems like) 200% all the time. No matter what. I installed a program called Speed Fan and it does not register a fan being in the system at all. It also tells me that my core temperature (right after startup) is at 108 degrees F. That is absolutely absurb. I have ordered and installed a new fan, and the problem is still the same. I have also checked all my drivers, all my windows updates, and my BIOS is up to date. I am completely out of ideas and am close to scrapping the computer. Does anyone have any suggestions?

There should be some sort of fan control in the BIOS. In my laptop, in the BIOS, I have only limited options (2), to either to have the fan on low at all times or on high that cycles on and off when a certain temperature is reached (that I can't control). Most laptops off the shelf are low end and really don't have any viable options for control of the internal hardware.

Unless I've completed missed it I don't have that option. I have checked it though. But I will check again and post my results.

I don't think you do much about that since you've the latest version of the BIOS and used speedfan to no avail. Try to clean the fan vents and the heatsink to reduce the noise and allow for more airflow.

I forgot to mention that you can change the system cooling policy of your computer through advanced power options.

To do this, go to start menu, then type power options and open it. On the power options window, click edit plan settings and then click change advanced power options. Expand the power processor management section and then change the system cooling policy from active to "passive." This might force the fan to spin at low rpms even when the CPU is being heavily used. However, if the CPU temperature becomes hot, instead of ramping up the fans to cool it down, it will throttle the CPU so that the fans do not need to spin faster.

Ok so I was correct in saying that there was no option in the BIOS at all about fan speed settings. theveteran, I have also just adjusted the power settings in every power management plan of the computer, both on battery and ac, and restarted. And it has not changed the fan at all. The fan still is running at 2,000,000% haha. Could it possibly something on the motherboard other than the fan? Could there be a fault with the processor? SpeedFan and CoreTemp tell me that my core temperature is at 108 degrees Fahrenheit. i know that's not possible, my computer would be burning hot, and it's not. any recommendations of something else to tweak?

I couldn't think of anything but to just replace the fan with an aftermarket one.

I have already replaced the fan once, with the exact same model as the one that was in the computer to begin with. Would an aftermarket fan be different? If so where would I look for one? Or I guess I could just scrap the computer and sell it for parts. This is why I truly dislike Acers.

The aftermarket one will be better than the stock since most of them are quieter than the stock and deliver better airflow at less RPMs.

Alright. Maybe that's the route that I need to take. Lemme ask you this then, since there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the fan itself, I could probably sell them both back on eBay or something like that right? I mean, if 2 of the exact same fans produced the same result, it's more than likely not the fan itself but the computer, mainly the board. Does that sound like a correct assumption to make?

It has to be the BIOS that controls the motherboard and the fan. Putting an aftermarket fan that is designed to spin less will still spin less than the stock, even if the BIOS instructs the fan to spin at maximum speed.
