WmiPrvSE.exe out of control

I'm posting this although there have been quite a few past postings on the same topic - but nothing recent. And, many of the discussions don't seem to focus on how to repair the problem. And my searching of other forums has found no recent reports of this problem.

Several days ago, I saw (in Task Manager) that process WmiPrvSE.exe was constantly the #2 CPU use process, using between 10 and 30% of CPU.

I restored the OS (W7 SP1) to several days back before I had installed the regular Tuesday MS security fixes.

The problem was gone. Then, I reinstalled each security update and watched Task Manager. Everything was fine. Then, after a day or so, I was doing to relatively heavy surfing in Firefox (20.0.2) and suddenly, there it was again - hogging CPU.

Now, I did another restore, and the bad security update (282332) was gone from my list of installed updates, but WmiPrvSE was still out of control.

I'm going to keep working on this but if you think you can help or, better yet, KNOW of what the problem is....please let me know, here!

Didn't mention that I did accidentally install a program that had several "companion" programs. I thought I removed it all, but as I was restarting, it was there - loading. It's called Conduit and there are quite a lot of forum postings about how it's almost impossible to remove.
Perhaps it's the cause, but in any case, I'd like to remove it regardless.
Any help there?

That's Adware! ... Download AdWareCleaner AdwCleaner Download to your desktop
1.Right-click on adwcleaner.exe and select Run As Administrator to launch the application.
2.Click on Delete button.
3.Confirm each time with OK.
4.Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart. Please post the content of that logfile in your reply.
Note: You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[Sn].txt as well - n is the order number.

One last try: I removed Conduit as a program, but also deleted the remnants in the Program Files folder.
Not wanting to count chickens, etc.....but WmiPrvSE.exe is now using around 0% of CPU resources.
Jacee - thanks for the adwCleaner tip. I've got it and will run it soon. I'm guessing it will reduce other, less serious annoyances. Thanks.

Brought up out of sleep mode and everything seems fine.

Jacee, with the problem gone without running adwcleaner, I don't understand what the .txt report would do for this problem. Are your involved with that product? If so, or if you have a general interest in cleaning up adware, I'd send you the file directly.

No, I'm not involved with any product. The .txt log will show if there is more than one piece of adware that needs to be removed/deleted.

If I may Jacee.

Newmarket2 computers don't fix them selfs.
If you run the program that Jacee recommended and post the log as recommended Jacee can analyze it and look for possible problems.

She is one of this Forms experts on such matters.

The program cost you nothing and Jacee's expert knowledge cost you nothing.
I would highly recommend following the suggestion/recommendations that Jacee has given.
The only motive Jacee has is to try and help you.

Hi Janice, new to form. Tried your suggestion with with Adwcleaner to fix the Wmiprvse.exe overload. Worked like a charm. Back to normal cpu levels. WooHoo. Because of your advise, I registered. Thanks again.

I saw the recommendation to run AdwCleaner for the WmiPrvSE.exe high
utilization issue, and I did that. 25 items were identified, and 24 were
removed.

Immediately after, the utilizations dropped significantly! Then without
launching any apps or anything the Utilization jumped back up significantly.
See the attached images.

Now the 4 Processor are yoyo'ing from 0 to 20%. Much better, but peaking
higher than I would expect. Any more thoughts, or recommendations?
Thanks!
