Hi everyone I'm at my wits end! I cannot get my webcam to work. I have tried numerous options posted in different forums and on websites but nothing seems to work. Even when I went to the Acer update driver search site. When I added my model number I got about a dozen driver options but as soon as I put in my OS Windows 7 (64 Bit) it came back with no drivers. I've noticed in a number of forums that peoples webcams where working fine in Windows XP but when they updated to Windows 7 they lose the ability for their computers to find their webcams. Is this an inherent problem with Windows 7 and is there anyway to fix it short of buying an external webcam. Surly there must be a way to get it to work !!!
Regards Brett.

Hi Maxie,
No the webcam doesn't show in device manager. No "Errors" in device manager and I tried the Cyberlink Webcam Application 1.0.1523 but that made no difference which is probably due to the fact that the OS does not see the webcam. Any other thoughts ?

Unfortunately a lot of manufacturers, used the end of XP as an excuse to "rationalise" their driver libraries. they basically only made drivers for windows 7 to work with the hardware actually shipped with Windows 7 - so that those users who upgraded to windows 7 had a major issue with any hardware that was not included in later models. This is not a direct issue with windows 7 per se but more of a result of commercial decisions at acer, (although windows ships with drivers and they are included win windows update, Microsoft do not write these drivers, they only test and approve what the manufacturers provide.

I did have an acer netbook that used a Crystal Eye camera and when I upgraded to Windows 7 I did a lot of searching and experimentation and I did eventually find one driver that worked ....

I've checked my archive and it appears that I still have a copy of the driver which is included here ...

View attachment Camera_Suyin_1.0_XPx86_A.zip

   Warning
Please be aware that this may not be the actual driver for your camera and so will probably not work, I can give no assurances that this will work and or not cause other issues - If you do try it please ensure your system is fully backed up especially all your personal data

The name on the driver shows the actual manufacturer of the camera that acer badge as the Crystal Eye so that may help you find a more suitable driver if you decide to not proceed with the one I've uploaded

I also had a mechanical issue with the camera on my system where the wiring from the motherboard and the camera failed at the screen hinge so stopped the camera working even with the correct driver so this could also be something to consider as a cause of your issue
