I recently installed Windows 7 Home Premium x86 on a friend's laptop, and she gave it back to me because it has been freezing on her. I did some investigation, and I believe that it is linked with hibernation; after I resume from hibernation, within a few minutes, no matter what the activity, the computer will completely freeze. Even the caps-lock key will not work. Does anyone know why this happens, and what I can do to fix it?

Edit: After posting, I realized I should probably post some specs.

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium x86
Model: Acer Aspire 5515
Processor: AMD Athlon Processor 2650e, 1600 Mhz
Memory: 3 GB
Hard Drive: 150 GB

No, I am not.

great there is a knbown prb between autohide and hibernation. could you go into event viewer by typing that in the search bar and go to the wondows log, application tab. Look for errors (red "X" in left column) and tell us the event id and source code of the most frequent

thanks

You know what, I returned the computer a little while ago, so I cannot access anything on it. Thanks for the help anyway.

I realize this thread is a few weeks old, but I've got an Acer 5515 and am having the exact same problem. I've looked in the event log (Application) and there aren't any error entries from the most recent occurrence.

I do not use Auto Hide Taskbar.

Any new information on this problem or anything else I might try?

Best things to do are to update bios to latest and then install latest chipset drivers.

Any other driver not compliant with sleeping and/or hibernation will throw the system out of whack with this. For that reason, update every driver on the system to latest possible.

Are your graphics drivers up-to-date?

This machine uses an ATI Radeon X1200. ATI's site doesn't show drivers for it, although I was able to find something in their "legacy support" area. I downloaded and installed it, but it didn't appear to change anything, the driver date and version in Device Manager were the same as before the install.

Best things to do are to update bios to latest and then install latest chipset drivers.

According to what I can find on Acer's web site I've got the most recent BIOS. I've searched for "acer 5515 chipset driver" and haven't turned up anything.

Install like this in device manager:

Right click it. Update driver software. Browse. Let me pick. Have disk. Browse. Navigate to and double click on the .inf in C:\ATI

Hit ok. Hit next and let it install. Reboot and then choose an Aero theme.

I did that the first time. It doesn't show the X1200. FWIW, I've been running an Aero theme all along. When I installed Win7 it recognized the card as the X1200 and automatically installed the correct driver for it.

Hello

I have the exact same problem after Hibernation, and the exact same video card.
Autohide taskbar is disabled

My ATI driver is 8.561.0.0

But I think it has somthing to do with the USB Mas Storage Device, because my computer can't turn it off when needed.
