Acer Laptop: Switchable Graphics using i7 & AMD Radeon

Hi guys,

I have an Acer Aspire 7750g with an AMD Radeon HD 7670M card and had the same problem with the switchable graphics. I found a solution on another forum.

What I did was to download and install a modded bios from Bios Mods Tools; - [http://www.bios-mods.com/BIOS]
Insyde -> A_A_7750_P5WE0117_UlkMenus_ByCamiloml.exe

Go into BIOS -> Advanced -> Video Configuration -> Pci Express Graphic -> Always Enable PEG [Enabled]

Go into BIOS -> Advanced -> Video Configuration -> Pci Express Graphic -> PowerXpress Setting [Muxed Fixed Scheme]

Restart

Now I can select which display card I want to use in Catalyst Control center -> Start -> Power -> Switchable Graphics

Hey guys i just want to warn the ones of you with

Acer Aspire 7750g and a HD 6850m (only!)

Biosflash works great but u should be carefull with the settings u make.

DONT ENABLE switchable graphics or the onboard graphics chip

i and several other people did this and the notebook keeps rebooting with a black screen you can't enter the bios or windows.
A insyde bios recovery in crisis mode( fn+esc ) was impossible .. i don't know if it has to do with the bios or not maybe acer just don't want us to be able to recover the bios.

So just be aware and don't make the same mistake like me.
Happy day to you all

Hi Ok i went into the bios and changed all the settings as described before. I am now able to manually set which graphics card to use in ccc. Shogun 2 use to read only the intel card but now it reads the radeon one but the video memory hasnt changed it still says 535mb that was with intel. My 6650m radeon has 2gb vram and im still not able to play on ultra does anyone hav any suggestions?

Also i noticed even on high end demanding games both cards are still in use o_O
I mean Radeon is called and i saw a 39% max gpu load, but the integrated one is also used o_O,
no wonder Radeon max heat was 50C so far o_O cause both cards being used o_O;

I noticed no lags on Dynasty Warriors 7 on cpu 98% wich also demands good graphic card,
so wont bother risking using a moded bios or anything else that can help kill this stupid Acer laptop lol...
My 1st experience with faulty satelite toshiba laptops was enough,
now i get this ridiculous switchable graphic thing lol... *facepalm*

The modded bios actually works very good. It just has one minor issue where u have to adjust the brightness manually by going to control panel u cant adjust it on the keyboard. U really only need the modded bios when the game ur trying to play doesn't recognize the radeon graphics just the intel which is y i downloaded the bios so i could manually switch my graphics so the game would read the right graphics card and not limit my graphics options like shogun 2 did.

Dual Monitors Problem

Hi guys, I've read this entire thread, thanks to everyone for all the advice and help. I just ran into a problem though.

I have an Acer Aspire 7750G-6662 and am using the modified BIOS recommended earlier in this thread. I configured the BIOS with the recommended two settings. Everything has been great the last couple of weeks. But today, I plugged in my second HDMI monitor. Instant freeze at boot up right at the "ASUS" splash. Any ideas how to fix?

Hi ogwarsaw

Thanks for your replay.
But in this section BIOS -> Advanced -> Video Configuration -> Pci Express Graphic

I have only 3 options
ASPM: with options (Auto selected)
1)Disable
2)L0s
3)LosL1
4)Auto

Peg Workaround: with options (Disable selected)
1)Disable
2)Enable

Always Enable Peg: with options (Enable selected)
1)Disable
2)Enable

And I really can't find any "PowerXpress Setting" :(

Thats odd because when i go into my bios the powerXpress option is right under the "always enable Peg". All i know is that this bios has worked great with the 7750g-6662 model and other models not sure how it works with the 9807 model. I would suggest re-downloading and installing the bios and try it again. Make sure you downloaded the bios mentioned previously in the thread you probably accidentally downloaded the wrong one. Let me know how that turns out

Curious what is your motherboard? I have 7750G-6669 with JE70_HR motherboard.

Also some have said they first have to install the OEM 1.20 BIOS.

I just tried update bios again - but nothing changed :(
But in device manager I have "Amd Radeon 6600M and 6700M Series" - so I guess I can use only one video card, at least it's not a Intel video card =))

Wow so what are you worried about u have 2 great cards that are practically the same. I had an intel 3000 and 6650m and all my games only read the intel one till i downloaded the bios so i had a huge problem. Either way u still have to use one card anyways thats what the bios does it lets u only pick one card to use manually. Switchable graphics is suppose to have one weak card for basic use and a strong card for gaming and it was suppose to switch automatically. Guess this function only works good in theory. Im just doing everything on my radeon card i dont even switch to intel even when im not gaming
