Acer W500P Windows 7 Product Key

Hi,
I recently got an Acer W500P tablet which came with Windows 7 Pro x32. I am planning on installing the new Windows 8 as I have been told it is perfect for tablets.

Before I do this I want to make sure if it doesn't go as well as I hope it will I want to put Win7 back on. But it didn't come with a CD or Product Key.

How can i find what product key it is using?
I tried a program "WinKeyFinder", it gave me a key but when i googled half of the key it came up with the whole key in the results (websites giving away keys for free).

Was that my key or did the program give me the wrong one?
If that was my key, would it work if I do a clean install of windows?

That was your key most likely, and yes it'll work if you do a clean install.

I googled my completely legal OEM key, and it came up, so I'm guessing all keys show up. I really don't know.

First: If your product key is on the internet, then there is a high probablity that you have an illegal copy.

and the key is the same. The person i got it from has had the same OS installed since he brought it new a few months back.

What you know now is that the Win 7 wasn't a "hacked" version.

You still will probably run up against problems when you try to validate the Win 7 if others have been using the same key to "validate" their Win 7.

the rule is really simple:
1 license = 1 machine
1 machine = 1 license.

that was just a quick way of making sure that the Win 7 had been validated at sometime. The check isn't foolproof but good enough for government work as the saying goes.

The key what you have and probably got on net is a OEM SLP key which is used by Acer for factory activation. When you install win 7 again, this key is not enough to activate. You also need a certificate and a SLIC 2.1 BIOS.

You may check your product id and if it contains OEM in between then what you have is an OEM version.

Usually most of the OEM SLIC keys are published on internet and they are legal keys and are normally used only by system manufacturers.

There are some programs available on net like Activation backup and restore using which you make a backup of your certificate and oem serial no. After reinstall you have to restore these two items to permanently activate your win 7.

If you have a retail version, what I explained above does not apply to your case.

I have no knowledge about win 7 for tablets. So make sure you have the correct version of win 7 and it works for your Acer tablet.

Once saved, run the tool.
