Activating an old (OEM) license?

Hello!

My acquaintance has a desktop computer with a Windows 7 license sticker on it. He would like to format the HDD, maybe even get a new SSD and install Windows 7 again. He has no installation media though.

So, will it work if I download Windows 7 from somewhere (where?) and he uses the old license key? Can the downloaded ISO have the SP1 included even if his license is from the time when the SP1 wasn't released yet?

Please, someone who knows about this in practice, please do tell.

Was it x86 or x64 version? What language do you want?->language and bit version are irrelevant for license keys.

Does he have a OEM sticker on machine with license key on it?
win7 home premium?

You posted that you have a sticker on the computer.

That sticker from Microsoft is still good as long as it hasn't been used anywhere else.

License is for Windows 7 Pro . x86/x64 any language. Also for SP1 and non-SP1 installs.

Don't use E, N, K and KN version!

The N editions don't contain any media player software. Don't you want windows media player?

Any other WINDOWS 7 X64 edition in serbian language is fine as well.

The bootable disks can very easily be converted into universal installation media supporting all Windows 7 editions (except Enterprise). There's only a single file that needs to be removed on the DVD. The file named ei.cfg in the sources folder restricts the choice of Windows editions that can be installed with that particular DVD. To remove it, you can apply the ei.cfg Removal Utility very easily.

Can you get such a dvd?

The Key is specific to the edition (Std/K/N/E etc) and MUST be used with the appropriate media.

What do you mean by that exactly? I'm in Europe and N is said to be for Europe but the sticker doesn't say anything specific about the version so I guess I will try installing the standard edition.

Yup - Unless the sticker has the extra code it's the standard edition

I think the N versions were because of the browser hassle with the EU.
