Hi, to make this short, I'm currently trying to develop a Network Access Control server in Java, and I want to detect if the user has his Antivirus/Antispyware/Firewall enabled. Right now i cant detect if any of these are disabled/enable, but in case the user has disabled his real-time protection, I want my own program to enable it for him, that way my program has more transparency. Problem is, I don't know how to do that... So my question is, is there any way i can enable the Antivirus/Antispyware/Firewall real-time protection using the Windows Command Prompt or using the Registry... or any other way i can do by code (Java)? Thanks beforehand.

Hello Henry,

If there was a simple way to remotely enable a systems security systems this would likely be counter productive as simply reversing the instruction set would disable the security system, Not a good idea :)

If you can identify the status I believe the best policy would be for you to inform the remote user of the inactive status of the security, and leave it at that.

As a little background, all security suites that I know of require admin rights to change the state, this will of course invoke the UAC which by design, requires local user intervention.

If you are attempting this control in a client/Server network then this sort of control may well be built into any system wide security suite where control, updates, ETC. are controlled from the server

Hi, thanks for answer. I apologize for not being very clear, I mentioned having a server, but i actually never mentioned that the server wasn't in charge of doing what I'm asking.

First of all
Right now i cant detect if any of these are disabled/enable
There's a typo there, i mean i CAN detect the status.

Second, the way i wan't to do this is by using a client-side software which occasionally scans the status of all the security softwares. So the client is not exactly being controlled remotely, it just sends the information about the computer's condition to the server.

But anyways, i do understand what you're saying, and it's probably at best that I leave it at only alert the user about activating his real-time protection (unless there's actually a way to activate it automatically).

Again, thanks for your answer.
