Hello,
I posted this same topic a while back, but I am getting the 'This copy of win is not genuine' black screen again. I built my computer and bought win 7 home premium on line from Microsoft. I received two disks in the mail and installed 64 bit version.

I activated and was fine for a few months and got the black screen. I am deaf. My wife called Microsoft on the phone and got it straightened out for me.

This time, I added a usb drive to my comp. and got the black screen. I removed the usb device but the deed was done.
My wife is out of town for two months and I have no one here to call Microsoft on the phone. I can't find the activation code so I can't activate on line. I have been through all the activation tutorials.

Surely Microsoft has some way of handling my problem on line.

Thank you,
Angster

Hello Angster and welcome to the forums

Could you generate an MGADiag log for us please? You should be able to activate over the internet - the phone activation is a fallback for people who are struggling with online activation, and for computers without internet access.

http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-...ne-activation-issue-posting-instructions.html

I think your best option is getting a friend to do it for you. I would happily do this for you, but it heavily relies on you trusting me not to take your license. The only thing that I can do is give you my word, and I'm sure there are plenty of other people here that would vouch for me, but the choice is yours and I really don't mind if you decline :)

Tom

The Product Key in use is the Default Key which can never be activated.

The motherboard appears to be a retail (AsRock?) one - which means that you probably purchased the Windows License yourself.
Do you have the Windows packaging, etc. ??

The Key should be either inside the box, probably on a card; or on a COA sticker on the machine's case.
You need to change the Key to the one you find, and then activate it.
(Note that the situation shouldn't get any worse than it already is - so there's no hurry!)

Thanks noel,
Here is the history:

I bought Win 7 on-line from the Microsoft store. When it arrived there were two cds, one for 32 bit and one for 64. They came with an activation code. I installed the 64 bit software and activated it on line.

A few months later I got the first notice that the software was illegal. When i tried to find the activation code it was missing. (I have the two cds in their original envelopes but no code). My wife got on the phone with Microsoft and got it straightened out.

After a few months the black screen was back with the illegal software message.
My wife is not available, and I really don't have anyone available to get on the phone right now.

You are right about not being in a hurry but am I going to have to go through this every few months?

Thanks,
Angster

If you log into the MS Store with the same Live ID account that you used for the purchase, the Key should be there. It should also be in an email from the store.

Angster, here in the US, most areas have a service called relay for relaying phone calls from deaf people. I believe that you have to have a TTY writer for the phone
which many deaf people have. Something tells me that in the UK they most likely have that also.

The phone company provides that as a free service.
