I plan on replacing my Seagate 320 gig drive with a SSD. I'm running Win 7 Ulitmate 64 bit. I'll be adding a 160 gig SSD. My current hard drive is partitioned so creating an image with widows backup won't be a problem. If I just install the SSD to my system and them restore the image that I've made to it will that be sufficient? I mean will windows 7 format the SSD properly? or what? I've read that SSD's need to be formatted a certain way to have them operate at maximum eff.

I would suggest you connect to another machine and format the new SSD so the partition is aligned then when you restore, you don't need to format.

To be honest, you could probably just restore it and format it at the same time. It will most likely work fine. Windows Vista and Windows 7 have been doing a good job at this. I don'y think you don't need to worry much.
