Hi,

Whilst on the internet I keep getting the 'additional log on information required-click to open your browser' bubble popping up. When this happens it briefly disconnects me from the internet (it automatically reconnects within a few seconds) and sometimes when I turn my laptop on it will connect to the internet but wont allow me access to the internet.
I have had my laptop/internet service provider/modem for nearly a year but this problem has cropped up in the last few weeks!
I'm assuming that it is an update issue of some type as when I connect with my PS3 it stays connected with no interruption in connectivity at all.

I am using a wireless connection, my ISP is Vodafone Ireland and my modem is a black ZyXEL (P-66OHN-T1A) Eircom modem.

Any help will be greatly appreciated as this issue is intensely frustrating!

Welcome to the forums!

Have you tried running an sfc/scannow? We have many excellent tutorials here at the forums, written by some very capable people. Here's one on how to do that if you haven't before. Just click on the link.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

If this is a "new" problem have you tried a system restore to a point before this started? (always start with the simple things) I'm assuming you have already ran your malware and anti-virus scans of course.

Another thought....... this sounds more like a browser/isp problem to me , but I could be wrong. Have you updated your browser and/or router firmware?

Hi electrino, Welcome.

Did you do some update after which this message is popping up?

Basically installing KB2446708 (windows update) pops this message.

I just did the sfc/scannow and it found no integrity violations. I am using open DNS but I don't know how to change it!
I did get a windows update recently and the problem started soon afterwards. But, again, I dont know how to check what update it was or how to uninstall it or even how to restore to a previous save point!

Please excuse my absolute ignorance in relation to this! Im kind of lost!

p.s. i did a virus/maleware scan and everything is good in that dept.

just a quick update...i followed these steps:

1. Click on Start and then Control Panel.
2. Go to Networking and sharing center and then click on Change adapter settings.
3. Right click on Local Area Connection and choose properties.
4. Highlight Internet Protocol Version 6 and click on Properties.
5. Choose Obtain DNS servers address automatically and press Ok.
6. Choose Obtain IP address automatically.
7. Repeat the steps for Internet Protocol version 4 as well

and this, so far, has seemed to work. My IPv4 wasnt set to choose DNS servers automatically, but rather to an address starting 206.67. etc

All is good for now but I'll keep the thread updated to see if the problem comes back! If it doesnt I'll mark this thread as solved.

Thanks for all the advise!

As usual... I spoke too soon! After changing the settings I got a good 6 or 7 hours with no interruption in connectivity.... but the problem literally came back with a vengeance within the last few minutes (funnily enough, the problem came back right after i posted saying it was fixed!)

Back to the drawing board i guess!

yeah, I also spoke too soon as well (on that 'other' duplicate thread). wish a mod would come along and merge these two. also I am somewhat bewildered that a super-guru has not chimed in with their usual and most awesome uber-solutions.

I had the pop up return one time and again flushed the DNS and browser and shut the computer completely down. Re started and have not had the issue for three days.

I did add to the post over at OpenDNS that it came back but there has not been any additional response.

Another update:

I've plugged my modem straight into my laptop using an Ethernet cable and the problem seems to be rectified. I haven't had a pop up or an interruption in connectivity since using the Ethernet cable.

Although this seems to work (so far!) it is quite inconvenient for me due to the lay out of my room (i.e., there's cables going everywhere!) and if a proper solution/cause is found to the problem is found I'd love to know!

In the mean time I'll update if this method suddenly stops working!
