Okay-I wasn't certain where to post this. So,here it is.I' really VERY new to the issue of working with drives and I really need some help/advice with this. What I'm wanting to do is to transfer all of my movies and music to some sort of other drive. But,I really don't know what kind of drive to use.I've heard of "flash drives". Would this be the right thing for me ? Also,I came across a Western Digital 250 GB,external ,7200 RPM,3.5" hard drive on ebay for $10 ! I was thinking I could even do this ! It really sounds like a great deal.My question with this external hard drive is,does this drive need to stay plugged in all the time or,can I use it like a "flash drive" and just store what I want on it and just break it out whenever I need it ? If it helps-I'm running a Compaq Presario CQ57.I'll check back tomorrow for any advice.Much,MUCH thanks to anyone who chi,es in ! It's MUCH appreciated !!

The option is yours, you can leave it connected to your pc or you can hook it up just when you want to use it.

I would hook it up only when you want to use it.

Don`t store anything you really want to keep long term on a flash drive, they are not as reliable and not really designed for long term storage.

Addram THANK YOU Very,VERY much ! I really didn't know about flash drives not being for long term storage ! Thank you BOTH very,VERY much !! I REALLY appreciate your advice ! I'm not going to mark this as "solved" just yet.Just to see what some others might say about this issue.But-I believe addram has pointed me in the direction I'm going to go ! The Western Digital may not be the best. But,like everything else-I've heard good and bad about them.About on a 50-50 keel. And,the drive is brand new. So,I believe I'm going to give it a try.For the price,it's an awesome deal ! And,hell-if it doesn't work out,I can always find the stuff again that I'm about to put on it :) Again, thank you both very,VERY much !!!
