Good Day all,
Time I believe to pump up the visuals on my system.
The manufacturers installed card is an :- NVIDIA GeForce 7300 SE/7200 GS
Having tinkered about in the last few weeks with a few games, Blazing Angels 2, Far Cry and a few other odds and ends, I thought that things were just a touch on the limit so to speak. So would anyone care to advise on an upgrade?
A few hours on the Googly place have left me quite bemused as to what is what these days. I'd have about £100 to spend, with a little more if it was really worth it.
Full system specs on my profile if you need additional info.
Thanks for reading,
All the best,
Mick C.

I would get the 5750 (has DX 11). I had a GTS 250 1gb, and while a very nice card, the 5750 is more future proof.

I am kinda looking for a new vid card too, but am skeptical of the ATI lineup with so many problems with them. BSoD, GSoD, driver stopped responding..etc. But most seem to be from too low of core & mem speeds at idle, is there anything else wrong? I know there is a tweak to up the speeds, but I am still skeptical about getting an ATI.

It depends . . .

I, personally, do not think it is reasonable to consider the gfx card in a vacuum. For example, what is the native resolution of your monitor(s)? Are you one who thinks bigger is better? Consider this article.

I have to agree with Kurahk7: I think it best if you figure out your needs based on your existing system (CPU, PSU, RAM, cooling), anticipated upgrades, and primary usage. Also, any chance of SLI or XFire in your future?

First challenge: ATi or NVIDIA.

Good luck,

Monk

ive already considered his needs based on his existing system , he has 100 quid , not 1000 , there is no option for sli or xfire without a major upgrade , its simple , he has 100 pounds and he wants faster performance

I suppose it could be argued that simplicity consists of consulting a guru and following his or her advice in all matters within one's sphere of existence. I'm new here but there appears to be more than an adequate supply of gurus who populate Win7 Forums. Better would be to consult several gurus (Google, e.g.), attempt to divine a consensus therefrom, and follow their advice. In this example one would be tripping over gurus.

Best is to cultivate a working understanding of computer components; then familiarize oneself with what is available and how it would nexus with one's needs, one's system, one's plans, one's budget; and then make that informed decision, "What is best for me."

So, let me reiterate and invite folks to waft technical vis-à-vis my initial query: which should ViperMWC buy: ATi or NVIDIA? Why? Simple answers only, please.

Monk

P.S. I would not let NVIDIA in my house, let alone my case. Now that's simple!

Thank you all for your suggestions and advice.
As Archie pointed out this is about the last upgrade my system as it stands can handle.
So a little more graphics power and I'll be happy, until the time I can afford a new system.
No brand loyalty here Monk LOL, Nvidia at the moment, but I'll go with the best i can get for my meagre resources,
I was looking over the GTS 250, but wasn't totally sure if it was suitable, but as it's come up on the
suggestions here I'm happy this is the range/type I should be looking for.
The ATI Radeon HD 5750 cards seem to be a touch more expensive here in the UK, but not by much.
So for me it'll be a quick look at the merits of each and I'll be set.
If I can corner the piggy bank that is.
Thanks again everyone.
Mick C.
