Solved Advice on a new Intel build, please

I'm not real sure how many cards are fast enough to break the PCIe 2.0 'speed limit'. But, supposedly it will give a small increase in speed with PCIe 3.0. How, I have no idea.

But the spacing kills what the board can do. My card takes up 2 slots. So, realistically it could only do X16, X16, X8 most likely.

1 slot taken x16 speed
2 slots taken x16 and x16 speed
3 slots taken then you get the x16 x16 x8 speeds.

I Sadly regreat both GPU's will be 8x due to them sharing lanes when in Sli or Xfire there has never been 2x cards running that way it's not possible yet

Reason why One GPU is at 100% and the second can go from 25% to 50% use at best that is why it is a waste of money these days for Sli or Xfire unless you are running 3 monitors but again DSR is making it possible to play games in 2k with one card and optimized so ........ Honestly one GPU is the standard unless your going for bragging rights

That's good to know. I was under the impression that 2x16 was possible. I won't bother trying to Crossfire then. I'll just stick with the one card, which I'm perfectly happy with.

Do you think I'll get any boost in frame rates going from PCIe 2.0 to 3.0, using the Intel build?

You will see at least 25% gains in ever game

I would say about 25% because if my AMD had 3.0 I would be scoring well in the 2300's with that 970 i am barley near breaking 2000 with that set up which is pretty sad

The last thing I was holding off on for a PC build was a Broadwell. Now we have Skylake.
So is Broadwell Notebook focused and SkyLake PC Desktop focused?
It appears to me that if you need to build a desktop in the near future you're stuck with (hot-temp) Haswell. It confuses me at bit.

Broadwell is mobile-focused, but may have a couple of so-called desktop versions, sooner or later. At least they will allegedly be socket 1150. I think a few laptops (or notebooks?) are already being sold.

Skylake will be a broader line, 35 watt to 95 watt, mobile and desktop, dual core and quad core, K and non-K, with at least 2 variants of integrated graphics. The roadmap is clouded. It's possible the K models may not be out till 2016, but it's all speculation. I think most and possibly all will use either DDR3 or DDR4. The first Skylakes to be released will allegedly be desktop models. Socket 1151.
