Aero peek, right click, "tasks" how to disable?

P L E A S E help me before I lose my mind ...

As you can see above, when I right click any icon in Aero Peek, I have a separate section called Tasks. Open new tab, Open new window and so on. How do I disable this annoyance?
I am not wanting to disable Aero Peek. Just the "Tasks" section. I know its possible, it use to be that way before I had to reinstall Windows 7. Now that I've reinstalled afresh, something has changed, and I'll be damned if I can find how to get it back to how it was before, without the Tasks section.

Please help. I've searched and searched and all Im getting, no matter how I phrase the query is either enable aero peek in taskbar, or disable aero peek in taskbar ....ARGH!

Your help would be muchly appreciated.

Are you referring to the icons on the Task Bar? I have about ten on my Task Bar and some of them shows the "Task" when right clicked and some don't. I had never noticed it before. None of mine on the Desktop show the "Task". As far as I can tell, that is just a normal function of Win 7.

I do believe it is a normal function of Windows, but, it can be changed, as I've had in the past. I just can't remember what I did to make "Tasks" not available. I was hoping someone here could help.

Hello Fermungus, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Those are called Jump Lists, and is what you see normally when you right click on an icon on the taskbar.

If you wanted to see the normal context menu, then you would press and hold the Shift key and right click on the taskbar icon instead.

If you like, you could reset and clear jump lists to remove most items from them, but they will repopulate again as you open files that use that program the icon belongs to.

If you like, you could turn off Recent Items and Recent Programs to help keep them from repopulating jump lists.

That's not what they are looking for. They want to remove the actual task section in the jump list.

andrew129260 got it correct in what I was looking for:

adding the follwoing registry key solves the probelm:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\<process name>]
"IsHostApp"=""

How do I do this?

Do I go to (in regedit) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\ and in applications find firefox (as an example) and create a new key with "IsHostApp"="" as the name?
Sorry but would someone be so kind as to explain in simple terms what I need to do - thx

I don't have the exact steps, but a warning. You need to be very careful and know what you are doing when you change the registry. Do the wrong thing and your PC won't boot and you can have major problems.

Its kinda funny really. I didn't even think about that. Bigmck is correct. If you don't know what the registry is or even how to back it up safely, I would not do it. And of course, that is just something I found.

If it was me, I would just deal with it being there. Its not that big of a deal, and only adds a few lines.

Is there a specific purpose you don't want it there other then you find it annoying?

If you would like to lock things down or something else there might be another way.

I don't use Firefox but it appears that you have that pinned to the task bar and the right click menu it shows is related to Firefox operations..ie open a new tab

You can disable it specifically for firefox. Just harder to do it for all applications which I think is what he wants to do.
