I had an issue where my hdd for my laptop had some bad sectors and was causing my system to be very slow and it took a very long time to login. A drive check program from Lenovo indicated the drive had issues reading the drive.
I replaced the original 500 GB Hitachi drive, with a 500 GB WD Caviar Blue drive. I used WD Acronis True Image software to clone the drive. Clone worked, system boots, everything looks okay. There were some errors, as a result of bad reads or block issues, but the drive was going bad so this was to be expected. (First copy resulted in Windows complaint that it was not genuine, so I redid the clone, not allowing Acronis to make any adjustments; that is why I started looking into whether or not my windows was now fixed).
Two methods indicate the Windows 7 Professional I have installed is genuine, however, two do not.
1. If I click on Start->Computer (right click)->Properties, it indicates that windows is activated.
2. If I type “activate” in a run window, again it indicates it’s “activated”
3. If I go to Genuine Microsoft Software I think it fails, because it takes me to a screen to buy Win7Pro for $149
4. If I run the MGADiag.exe tool, it indicates that there are some files that have been tampered with.
All hardware is the same, except for the hard drive. The geometry between the drives are different, the new one uses advanced formatting which caused issues with other clone tools. Also, I can be confused that "activated" is not the same as "genuine" My first attempt at cloning it said, "not a genuine windows" on my desktop, it does not say that after the second attempt.
Any help or assistance is greatly appreciated.
