All Files only open to windows media

Okay so I am not computer savoy at all! The other day I turned on my computer and all my files have switched to windows media player with the logo on file. Ex. Click on Internet Explorer and Windows Media player comes up. This is in all my files> Is this a bug or virus? What do I do!

Yes you could be infected. If you didn't change things something did.
Here is a couple of things you could do.
Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a free download that removes viruses and malware from your computer
https://connect.microsoft.com/systemsweeper
These will scan and look for bad things. They are both free.
Update before scanning.

Updating might not be possible

You may not be able to update first.
A lot of new malware blocks Windows and anti-virus/anti-malware updates.

My friend's Vista laptop won't get ANY updates.
I've spent about 12 hours trying various fixes (including the MS ones) but it still won't update.
He's installed about 200 programs on his machine (although I suspect he probably only uses ~30 max) so he refuses to use the Recovery partition to reinstall his OS.

He also complains about how slow it is to boot up.
I looked at his Task Manager and he is running ~100 processes! :shock:
