Can't upgrade to Windows 10, despite all files being there

So, I have a 2012 Dell Inspiron laptop that is running Windows 7 SP 1.

I wanted to try and upgrade it to Windows 10 so I could test it out (before doing so on my desktop, since this laptop is one I keep around for "experiments"). Problem is, despite the fact that the Windows 10 upgrade agent seems to have downloaded via Windows Update (the files are there in the GWX folder in System32), I cannot upgrade.

There's no icon in the taskbar, various "fixes" I've tried to get the icon to show up haven't shown up. Running the upgrade files with Command Prompt hasn't worked either.

So what's going on? I hadn't actually turned on the laptop since April until now. Did I wait too long to download the upgrade agent?

Thanks guys. Unfortunately I see a lot of the success depends on this win10fix_full.zip script that was posted in dropbox.

However, the links don't work for me. It loads and loads until I get a Dropbox Error (500).

Using Chrome. AVG.

I did manage to get the Win10fix script from another source, tried the first method, no luck. Tried the second, it said it was "complete", but again, nothing yet. Hmm...

Get the media creation tool. Choose the create media for another computer. Choose correct language, correct version and correct bit. Choose to create iso.
When you get the iso mount it within win 7 and run the setup file. Be sure you choose to upgrade, not the clean install. Let her rip. When it asks for a key look below and click skip.

I hate to think avg would be blocking it but I don't put anything past avg
To upgrade one of the first steps is to uninstall your a-v not just turn it off or disable.
I believe that is listed in Brink's tutorial
