I have a HP Pavillion DV9443 with the updated Bios
with a clean install of Windows 7 everything his working except 2 !
- Built in Web Cam 1,3 MP (I think it is USB ?)
- All USB ports

I have install some Vista drivers since HP is not supporting Windows 7 on the DV9000 series.

The WebCam I can go without but not the USB port !

I am getting the same message from Windows want ever device I plug-in
-Basic USB key (Sandisk Cruzer Micro) or a Microsoft Optical mouse in all the ports. I get Unknown device

Any suggestions ?

Thanks !

Driver Page - Select your operating system HP Pavilion dv9443ca Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (Australia - English)»
Would check here to see you have the latest nforce chipset drivers - Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers if you do have them try reinstalling them.
Would check your usb settings in the bios.

Possible fix - set up a restore point and restore if it doesnt work - you need at least 4gb of memory installed in your system otherwise dont try it, you also so need the NVIDIA USB EHCI chipset - it can effect other USB devices other than storage devices: You encounter problems when you move data over USB from a Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer that has an NVIDIA USB EHCI chipset and at least 4GB of RAM

I am now reinstalling Vista to make an update instead !

No sorry no other suggestions - good luck! Dont give up - most problems can be resolved. Usually 30% of the problems are eventually resolved by the people with the problem - determination, or just giving it a bit of time to get over the anger and frustration.

Now trouble with HP recovery CDs

I am now trying to reinstall Vista with the generated HP recovery DVD.

But with all the tests I have done , the original partition have been deleted. And when I am trying to do recovery install from my DVD I am getting something like " The recovery DVD you use is not intented for your hardware"

His there a way to get around that problem ?

Thanks !

Try this; reboot computer and when the first screen appears start tapping the F11 button. Most HP's, including mine have this, this will reinstall OS from hard drive with out having use the recovery disc.

Hi Caribou,

Did you recently upgrade from Windows XP to Vista? If so, be sure you have all the information you need: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Upgrading-from-Windows-XP-to-Windows-Vista, especially the included upgrade advisor tool! This tool would let you know any problems prior to installation.

As far as your webcam goes, it looks like you have correctly pinpointed the driver issues, for more information about getting up-to-date drivers go here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/The-hunt-for-drivers-How-to-find-Windows-Vista-drivers-for-all-your-hardware. If it is older hardware you may have to replace with a compatible model.

Do not give up. You may be able to find the problem with the USB port in question by consulting your troubleshooters: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Troubleshooting-in-Windows.

If all else fails, it may be necessary to replace hardware.

Cheers,
Cassandra

I know this is a bit late, but I've just got some feeback on the unknown device and USB ports - basically to resolve this issue you need to shut down the PC, turn everything off for at least one minute, anyhow, the details are here : http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/63685-unknown-device.html
Better late then never though!

To complete what you have said above for others (as this is a common problem)

Take your laptop battery out and the mains lead. Leave it for a minute or so for power to drain out of system.
This resets the usb chip which will then rediscover your ports etc when you plug power back in and switch on.

Has it worked for you?
If so don't forget to report to the Mods as problem solved for your "green tick"
