alt f4 not working

finally, after weeks of searching i stumbled across SharpKeys, a 3rd party application that allowed me to remap my F4 key to its original function without having to disable the handy media key functions.

i am posting this solution here so the next person that stumbles along with this issue will not have to make due with a partial fix

SharpKeys

Hi,

I just bought a HP laptop and am also facing the problem. i tried to use the sharpkeys as suggested by you but the problem is am not able to map the f4 key as required.

My default f4 key is for extending my monitor to a projector etc( not sure what do we call for that option). When i try to automatically map my F4 key using the "Type Key" option it detects the key as (Left windows E_05B) and when I write it to registry it disables my actual windows key also.

Please let me know how did you mao you F4 key

My model is HP dv6-3121nr

Thanks in advance...

tppundit, I'm maybe a bit off topic, but I have this article JIC you need some light on extending a monitor to a projector, etc.:

tppundit, I just downloaded your notebook's manual from HP's site. It reads:

Using the action keys
Action keys are customized actions that are assigned to specific keys at the top of the keyboard.
To use an action key, press and hold this key to activate the assigned function.
------------
NOTE: The action key feature is enabled at the factory. You can disable this feature in Setup Utility.
If this feature is disabled in Setup Utility, you will need to press fn and an action key to activate the
assigned function. Refer to the “Setup Utility (BIOS)” chapter for additional information.
------------

So it seems you'll have to disable the default factory keyboard mapping to solve your problem.

Thanks Paultx for the information.

I think one of our members mss31 has successfully mapped the F4 key using the sharpkeys software.

The only difference i see is the model number. May be dm4 has F4 key mapped to some other function which the sharpkeys is able to identify.

Just incase our member can help me on this before i disable it from the BIOS.

Thanks once again for the information
