Alternative to Shark's Codec Pack?

I was using the Shark's codec packs both for Vista64 and Windows7 32 bit. I really don't want the Bing Bar and it seems to insist on sticking it on my system. Anyone know of another general codec pack for Windows7?

I'm especially looking for one compatible with BDRebuilder and if possible, something that supports PGS subtitles. The last couple of updates it seems to have gone sour.

I believe the following codec packs work with 7:

Go for K-Lite mega codec pack .. you dont need any other codec pack after installing .. you will also get the mplayer automatically installed too with that pack .. K-Lite codec pack is the best without a tinge of doubt.

You also do not need to install real player as the mega codec pack also has the real player alternative for playing real media files

+1 for the K-Lite mega pack.

Includes Windows Media Player classic -- which appears to be able to play some "legacy" video codecs that the current WMP can't handle.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I'm trying Matroska pack. If that doesn't work out I'll give the k-lite a shot.

Carefull coz Malwarebytes picked up a nasty that was dialling home in one of those packs and i'm usually very cautious where I download from!!

That's kind of vague isn't it?

Anyway, other than the aggravation of Shark's pushing Bing Bar on me, the issue turned out to be BDRebuilder insisting on certain versions of software tools. It's just long enough between updates that I forget about it. He has links to the specific tools to install. When I encode video I usually use DirectShow and more and more players are coming with their own support for video display(or just use directshow) so maybe the day of the codec pack is done.

Another reason not to use malwarebytes then. Use SuperAntiSpyware.

You're quite correct - vague coz I couldn't remember which package it was with the built-in nasty - got a feeling it was the linux/Windows freebie one with the M/soft media player lookalike!

In any event I can understand if someone needs income. I can live with some "3rd party ware" that goes along with a free program if it's made easy to opt out of it. I don't like it being pushed on me. At that point I'll go out of my way to find something else.
