Always 3 spikes, after the same time..

Hey all, I'm new to this forum and I am a noob. Cause of this I would live to have any replies written the IQ 80 way please?

So here is the problem..

My network, always worked like it should, and suddenly I start getting 3 lag spikes with a 5 sec interval every 20 to 30 minutes. So I check the wiring, see if its all connected correctly and undamaged, I tried to take out any switches and routers so it was connected directly to my ISP, but nothing changed. Also had my modem checked for any errors but they didn't find any. So I figured it was my on-mobo network card, (EVGA x58 SLI LE) and so I tried reinstalling the network driver, but no result.

Now, since my computer was due to a new Windows 7 install, I just thought: "Lets re-install this shit. Why the hell not? I'm used to it by now". Besides, it wouldn't be the first time that hardware seems to be failing while its just Windows.. So I did, and it worked. But now after a few months it started to show the exact same issues. The exact same 3 lag spikes after around 20 to 30 minutes, and I am not planning to re-install Windows every time this happens..

Does anybody know anything I could do that might solve the problem? I am fresh out of ideas...

Well, the first thing I suspect is a virus/trojan. If you are clean, then it might be a driver update or Windows update that is impacting performance.

I got genuine NOD32 Smart Security, and I know how to keep my computer from getting viruses and junk. The current driver is from windows. I also tried the EVGA driver online, but I can't seem to get it to work. Strange file.. (http://www.evga.com/support/drivers/default.asp?switch=2) Windows is up-to-date too.

How do I reset or delete and re-install any network configurations? Maybe that could help.

Did you install the all of the hardware drivers yourself, downloaded from EVGA, or when you installed Windows did you let Windows detect and install them? Do you have the most recent BIOS firmware installed?

Here are the files I found on the EVGA website that pertain to your motherboard. Are these the same ones you found?

Think the BIOS was up to date, but I just updated it again anyway. Never managed to get the network driver to work for some reason. Couldn't download it I think it was... Strange stuff. But your link worked, and I updated my network driver now. Never even heard about the intel chipset update, what is it? ^^ nvm hehe.. I updated that as well then. And I'll also take the audio driver, not that it would change anything about the internet, probably..

Maybe. What options do you have?

Also - it's a long shot, but you could completely uninstall NOD32, reboot, and check to see if things improve.

I tried removing ESET Smart Security, and I didn't reinstall it for a while, was still getting the lag. I've also loaded defaults for Windows Firewall, but nothing changed.

Edit: The lags seem to change a bit. Now I sometimes have just one spike and sometimes even five. Above that my internet seems to be cut completely after the spikes, as I'm getting kicked from WoW and Skype.
