I have an AMD Phenom II X3 710 2,5 GhZ, and after fiddling around some in the device manager I notice that the "coprocessor" is unknown, and I can't find drivers for it.

I've an nVidia 8200 chipset with plans on changing to AMD 890GX/SB850.

As a sidenote I'd actually also like to hear the experience of you wise fellows if any has tried changing motherboard without reinstalling windows.

Hello Vain yes I have quite often changed motherboard without reinstalling, the last time from AMD to Intel lol it is possible and it can work but take my advice and always do a fresh install it may take longer but it can also save you a big headyache when things don't work as they should :D

Ah, I see, thanks.

My current motherboard would be the ASRock K10N78-1394

The one I plan to change to is ASUSTeK M4A89GD PRO USB 3.0

Hi Vain if you intend on swapping the mobo soon I personnally would'nt be too concerned about the coprocessor at this particular time , It will not have a noticeble effect on day to day running of your pc :)

Oh yeah, I figured that much, I just thought I'd be prepared for everything when I change.
But it seems the way to fix this would be the chipset drivers? There aren't usually individual drivers for the coprocessor?

That is correct nowadays , years ago it was a seperate component Known under the guise of a "floating point coprocessor " when you install the new mobo do not use the cd which comes with it but go to the Asus site and download the latest driver for the mobo from there as more often than not they are newer than the cd drivers !!:D

Updated my chipset drivers, resulting in the coprocessor no longer being in the device manager at all.

Curious.

Well there's no longer an unknown icon labelled "coprocessor", but there isn't a known one either, shouldn't I be worried?

No ,as I stated before it's all part and parcel of the chipset drivers which covers many things card readers, usbs etc where these are incorporated in the chipset :)
