Solved AntiVirus

Apart from Microsoft eseential, what is the best anti-virus going for me to use. I love avira apart from when i get false postitives and tell it to always ignore it always seems to forget that setting.

Any help would be really nice.

Avast! is very good. Seeing as it happens to you with Avira, I though I'd mention I haven't yet received any false positives, and I've been using it for nearly 3 years now.

If you're planning on installing to a NetBook, the Microsoft Security Essentials remains a good choice.

Avast is annoying, how do i stop MSE from reporting back to Microsoft as i never participate in anthing like Skynet which is really annoying.

I would not recommend AVG as it causes more BSODs than any other AV.

I like Emsisoft Anti-Malware but it can be annoying if you don't configure it correctly to your tastes. It's one of the highest rated on the market but you know you can't catch everything...

A different AVG slant -

A lot of people use AVG & NEVER have a BSOD...

Have been using AVG [paid] for years here on 3 computers all clean / no infections. No sign of any of the dreaded BSOD's either....

You should add a malware/spyware program besides an AV. The majority of people, pitifuly, can´t configure their AV very well. I would install a firewall too. But just keep in mind that a good firewall is only good if it´s well set up.

Anti-Malware/spyware Spybot, just to set an example, is a free and good one. There are many others.
Firewalls, you have Outpost, ZoneAlarm, Comodo and so many others, but remember what was stated before about setting it up.

if don´t feel very easy about firewalls, AV and spywares configurations (how they work) and vocabulary, there are plenty of stuff about that on the internet if you want to find out or you can post back and we´ll try to give you a hand.

It's been bugging me for like a month to decide between Norton AV or Kaspersky AV. Kaspersky lately has been doing a lot of False Positives with software I use, and having to always Add to Exceptions is a pain in the ass.

Plus Kaspersky really hasn't shown anything when I scan. So I don't know if I'm doing that good of a job, or if things are blowing right past Kaspersky or not. I almost wish something would try and attack me

"According to Aaron Hulett | Microsoft Malware Protection Center “if you disable SpyNet, you’ll also disable Dynamic Signature Service”

This is essential for MSE's Spynet information ...

1) If you allow SpyNet Reporting to send a signature back, AND it is a recognized bit of malware AND your MSE has has not been allowed to update automaticly, then it downloads the signatures and removes the offender.

2) If you allow SpyNet Reporting to send a signature back, and it is a NOT recognized bit of malware, MSE will retreive a sample of code from your machine to create new signatures.
The new signatures will be downloaded to your machine to remove the malware AND the new signatures will then be included in the daily MSE updates.

So, basicly if you plan on being the first in the world to contract a new malware, you need to leave SpyNet Reporting turned on.
But if you use reasonable care, any new malware reported to SpyNet today, will be included in tomorrows update.
