Any recommendations?

I think the last computer game I actually spent hours playing was SimTower or SimFarm...yes, it has been a LONG time. I loved Halo on XBOX but am not really into FPSs and have tried Halo on PC but feel it a little awkward. I'm pretty sure things like World of Warcraft are out of the question...The Sims doesn't really seem like my cup of tea either (nor second life). Can anyone recommend any games for my picky self? How are games like Need for Speed? I've tried them in the past (probably 8 years ago!) and didn't like them but maybe they've come a long way since then?

Hey man. I'm a picky gamer too. Lol I hate FPS games but the game that I play the most is Counter Strike Source (CSS). I'd definitely recommend it.

Have you tried downloading Steam? They have alot of demos on there so you can try a game before you buy it.

If you do end up buying CSS there is a free mod for it on steam called Insurgency which is like a whole game for free! It's a game that relies heavily on strategy and tactics. It's set in Iraq.

Other games that I play on windows 7 are

-Planscape Torment (RPG)
-The Longest Journey (Point and Click adventure)
-Braid (Puzzle)
-Max Payne 2 (Third Person Shooter)
-Sacred (Action RPG i.e. like Diablo)

As for Racing games, besides Gran Turismo, I really don't like them. I can't stand the Need for Speed series. Tried one of them last year and they still suck.

Need for Speed is the best for racing games, but try Race Driver GRID, you will definitely impressed with it's graphics (but of course, need a beast rigs =x).

I love GRID, it blows NFS away....far, far away. However, i don't think you need a beasty rig to play it. Check out my specs, i got it running perfectly on medium to high settings and there's nothing beasty about my setup!

GRID is fantastic, NFS Shift is pretty good, I don't know if they still sell it but Test Drive Unlimited is awesome, rFactor, Live For Speed, Just to name a few.

Agree 100% with you. =) For the thread starter specs, I'm sure he can play this game without trouble.

But what I mean is, you need beast rigs to really feels the stunning graphics from this game. XD

If you are put off using mouse and keyboard for FPS games, you could always use a 360 controller for some of them. Crysis and Crysis Warhead actually feel quite Halo-esque when played with a controller.

^^This. Although now you simply plug the controller in and it installs the driver for you.

The controller works best on games that support them. (it can be forced on games that have controller support, but it's not worth the effort.)

Since a lot of PC games are console ports, it's just like playing a console.


And yeah, I wasted many hours on Simcity, 2000 and 3000 - build a city, raze a city, build it up again
