Hello, i am looking for a graphics card that can run some games that i couldn't run before. I don't know anything about graphics cards, and i don't know if the graphics card that i will find is compatible. So i decided to post in the seven forums, my computer specs are:

Operating System
Windows 7 Professional 32-bit
CPU
Intel Pentium E6600 @ 3.06GHz 60 °C
Wolfdale 45nm Technology
RAM
2.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 533MHz (7-7-7-20)
Motherboard
Hewlett-Packard 1489 (XU1 PROCESSOR) 49 °C
Graphics
Generic PnP Monitor (1920x1080@60Hz)
Intel Q45/Q43 Express Chipset (HP)
Intel Q45/Q43 Express Chipset (HP)
Hard Drives
233GB Seagate ST3250318AS (SATA) 49 °C
Optical Drives
hp DVDRAM GT30L
DTSOFT Virtual CdRom Device

If anyone can leave me any suggestions, that would be great, the money that i have right now for a graphics card is $300, thank you for your time.

I'll defer to much more knowledgeable folks for the ultimate answer here but just looking at your spec's I think any modern graphics card will bottleneck with the rest of the system. Do you have a price range and what are your intentions for the rest of the system like do you plan to upgrade and when?. What do you use your system for primarily and such.

Yes I agree, any modern card especially in the $300 bracket will be badly bottlenecked by the rest of the system.

But the most important part and one which you have not listed is your PSU.

I expect looking at the rest of your specs that the PSU you have will be a low power budget one. For any $300 bracket GPU you will require a good quality branded PSU.

Further to my last comments, realistically if it is a HP PC which it looks to be, given the age I would doubt you could add anything much higher than a really low grade GPU due to the PSU.

My best suggestion would be to save your $300 and put it towards a new PC.

Paul.

Adding to what was said above, you seem to be in a tough spot, platform-wise. Does it make more sense to upgrade what can be upgraded and hope the performance meets your expectations? Or is it feasible to save up a few dollars here and there and build a new system that will last several years? The decision is ultimately up to you, but just eyeballing your current system, you are in for a new PSU, GPU, and RAM.

Hi OP, what games specifically are you interested in?

Generically speaking:
For you I'd get a new PSU, about 500W (visit jonnyguru.com for the lowdown) and video card of Radeon HD 7790 so you aren't spending a lot, but still a decent card when you save more and replace the CPU/motherboard/RAM, which you are back about 6 years or so.

Would look something like this:

Gigabyte Radeon HD 7790 - System Build - PCPartPicker

This was assuming that motherboard has a PCI Express 16 slot that is 2.0+ compatible, if it's 1.1/1.0 or non-existent, then you need a new system unless it's all very low demand gaming, like Plants vs. Zombies or such, which should already work fine?!?

A good gaming rig for today's fare figure about $1000 USD if someone knowledgeable assists with part selection, complete system.

A very good one, tack on $500+ MORE.

An amazing one, add $1500+.

As usual it's all about the $.
