Recently after waking up my laptop, the HDD started doing crackling sounds, and the speed of loading and listing things became very slow. Then after a while this turned to blue error screen. However, after restarting in Safe Mode then in Normal Mode without repair, the laptop works fine again, no crackling. I backed up my data successfully. But I decided I would use the HDD further because I have no money at the moment to replace it. I wonder what caused the error and if there is a tool to prevent it more or less? At the moment my HDD is near to being full, I wonder if some important data was written into a bad sector and the reader head got stuck there? I wonder if there is something like a tool that is capable of scanning the device identifying and isolating bad sectors, etc?
