Any way to get a Mobility Radeon 9200 working?

...without using a generic driver? I never got it to fire under Vista so I figured I would give it one last shot. The notebook is pretty nice for its age so I wanted to see if it will work. Thank you!

I have a Mobility Radeon 9000 in my laptop and it works fine. Aero doesn't work but other than that I've had no problems. As long as you're using build 7057 or higher the drivers should be there and work just fine.

Really??? Nice, thanks very much. Is it a manual driver selection kind of thing or will it just find the correct Radeon driver?

EDIT: Ok, I installed 7100 on my notebook with the 9200 and I can't get it out of VGASave @ 1024x768 maxed out. Help?

Thanks.

suhhhhNAP! FINALLY... ok I got it now. I'll post my findings so maybe someone else can save some time. I never did find anyone that had answered this...

In order to get out of VGA mode I DL'd the XP driver from HP for the laptop. I ran it in WinXP SP3 compatability mode as an Admin and installed just the ATI driver, no contol panel. Voila!

Good work, have you tried Windows Update afterwards to see if it finds a newer driver?

Just a thought :p

Also if you update your system specs (via User CP) then people who have similar hardware may find this very useful

In my machine Windows just found the correct driver on its own. In earlier builds I think I had to use the XP driver manually but after 7057 or so, M$ included it.

Orbital Shark: Thanks very much. There was no newer driver listed with Windows Update unfortunately. I'll update my info, too. Thanks for the tip.

Scooter70: Very strange. There were no listed 9000/9200 drivers when I installed 7100. I tried the 9600 and a generic "Mobility Radeon" driver but neither worked.

Thanks again!

BSOD after installing Windows 7

Well, I installed Windows 7 on my Compaq Proliant x1230 without issue. I was even able to get high res video working on my external monitor by installing the drivers downloaded from HP's website in Compatibility Mode.

What is happening now is every so often, when I'm not even actively using the laptop, I'll get a BSOD related to the ATI driver. I also see in Device Manager the well documented issue related to Intel(R) 82855PM Processor to AGP Controller - 3341 not having sufficient resources.

At this point, I'm not sure what I can do since I appear to be following the same procedure as others to get the Radeon Mobility 9200 working under Windows 7.

Thoughts?

... a little bit further

Hi there!

after reading your posts, I try to install the Omega drivers for my ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 and it works fine. I used the advice of enable WinXP sp3 compatibility and the 2642 ATI driver from Omega.
For now is working fine. The next step is to test with some games ;)

Cheers

guys, there's an easier solution that works perfectly with all mobility 9200 notebooks! its a microsoft 2006 driver!
All u have to do is go to any PC having Windows Vista, browse C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository and copy the folder called "atiixpag.inf_x86***"(* means bla bla bla in pc language) copy it to your Flash disk, take it to ur windows 7,inside this folder right click and edit the file called "atiixpag.inf" to make the hidden drivers visible, go to the title called [ATI.Mfg.NTx86] in the notepad, underneath it remove all the ";" from the line beginings. Voalla!!
now to the device manager, right click on ur graphic card press "Update Driver", Browse to this INF file, remove the click "Show only compatable hardware" and pick "ATI MOBILITY/RADEON 9200 Secondary (Microsoft Corporation - XDDM)" !!
Note: If you copy paste the [ATI.Mfg.NTx86] I provided insde your inf file to replace the one there all of you who have nx 7000 or 7010 wont even need to remove the click "Show only compatable hardware" because I changed the Hardware IDs to become compeletely compatable, you can do that by getting your VGA ID from Device Manager and paste it after the "," of your selected driver
