AppData\Local - Folders with random characters

It's important to note that even though msnmsgr.exe created those folders on moonman's system, this program is apparently not the only culprit. On my system, it is clearly Windows Live Mail that is creating the folders, and after doing a full search, I found that msnmsgr.exe is not even present on my system.

Same here. Its all part of Live Essentials so I think there is some reg setting or variable that is set wrong.

Hello All,

I have been experiencing this problem as well, but I want to let you guys know something extra that I've found out. I let Windows Live Messenger and Windows Live Mesh run upon startup. If I wait a few minutes after logging on, then there will be an instance where the loading cursor with the blue ring will appear for a few seconds, then turn back to the pointer. Upon using Norton to clear out IE's temporary files, it always manages to delete 50MB of temporary files. I haven't opened IE at all since startup, so I'm pretty sure Windows Live Essentials is also saving temporary files to the wrong places, not only creating folders in the wrong places.

Just some extra information of the problem.

Hi

I've long forgotten about batch files and although I searched I couldn't come up with any that would suit but it shouldn't be that difficult for someone *cough* to come up with one ??

If you can't wait I found a free little program that searches for and deletes empty folders -

Remove Empty Directories - Freeware for Windows

I use the admin one - not sure if the other one will do the job but I run as admin with no UAC (tut, tut).

Type the folder C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Local into the directory to scan and then go to Settings, choose the Delete Mode, I do it directly, then to advanced settings and choose max nesting depth=2, then go back and scan. Any other folders other than the {xxxxxxxxxxxxx} ones add these to the box on the right in Settings and scan again. Only the {xxx} folders should appear in red and can be deleted. Works fine for me. It saves the settings on exit too. I think two of these folders are created every time Windows Live Mail is accessed.

Hope this is of some use.

AppData\Local empty folders in Win 7

I do not use Live Messenger and have the empty folders. I have activated Live Mail so it's probably creating them. I have about 50 of them and my laptop is only 45 days old.

What I know, I posted here - only confirming WL Mail as the suspected culprit. No WL Msgr on my system.

Also note- running newest: Version 2011 (Build 15.4.3555.0308) - as of this post anyway.
