Applications not responding

Hello

Recently for the last week or so, i keep getting problems with my PC freezing up and not responding.

It happens for about 20 seconds, and usually only in the first hour or so of having turning my PC on. After the PC has been running for a while its perfectly fine.

I have NOD32, Anti MalwareBytes, Microsoft Security Essentials all run a scan and they found nothing. Spybot found nothing.

During these random freezes/not responding... the peak CPU/Memory is still less than 20%/20%. So i don't think its an application causing it.

What else can i do to dissect this problem and find the cause?

Having more than one anti virus program on your computer at on time can and will cause this type of problem and maybe more.
NOD34 and MSE are both anti virus programs.

Okay it still happening. I was browsing the internet and playing music on media player.

Suddenly the music stops, the browser hangs ctrl+alt+del didn't go through, until the PC decided to start responding again it lasts for about a minute and the PC had been on for about 20 minutes. Now that its happened it won't probably happen again it only ever happens once per day.

I need some way to monitor what is going on so i can see what this is being caused by, any suggestions on software that can log activity or something?

I would recommend completely uninstalling NOD32 rather than just disabling it.

If the hanging still occurs - try getting a couple of system monitoring widgets, like the ones seen here: A Tour of the Best Windows 7 Gadgets for System Monitoring

In particular get some that show you CPU usage and Hard Drive activity. These are probably the two most common bottlenecks (if it is a genuine bottleneck). When the freeze has stopped, go to the desktop and check the graphs' histories for the past minute. If everything looks normal then you know it's not a genuine (hardware) bottleneck, and must instead be caused by applications disagreeing.

Well i doubt its a hardware issue, i have pretty much top end spec and the PC is less than a year old. Im mainly thinking its clutter that my OS is loading or something but msconfig shows only 4 start up apps.

But i will uninstall NOD 32 - seems no one thinks its very good any more :P

NOD 32 is an excellent Anti-virus program!

Please download VEW by Vino Rosso http://images.malwareremoval.com/vino/VEW.exe
and save it to your desktop (this is an 'event viewer tool')

Double click it to start it Note: If running Windows Vista or Windows 7 you will need to right click the file and select Run as administrator and click Continue or Allow at the User Account Control Prompt.

Click the check boxes next to Application and System located under Select log to query on the upper left
Under Select type to list on the right click the boxes next to Error and Warning Note: If running Windows Vista or Windows 7 also click the box next to Critical (not XP).
Under Number or date of events select Number of events and type 20 in the box next to 1 to 20 and click Run

Once it finishes it will display a log file in notepad
Please copy and paste its entire contents into your next reply

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
Step 1.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
  • After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
  • The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

Step 2.
Using AdwCleaner v3: Scan & Clean:
This time click on the Clean button.
Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S#].txt) will open automatically (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
A copy of that logfile will also be saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder
******Post both .txt logs

I don't know if this matters, but for some reason my MSE always started turned off on windows load.. i have to manually turn it on. The same happens with NOD32 and Anti Malware bytes...

Here are the results:
