Are improper Shut Down's Harmful?

I am currently staying in a country where the Electricty shuts off suddenly.This happens , often and sometimes rarely.But whenever it does,my laptop shut down's soon after that.Since it only stays active,as long as it is being charged.

So,i want to know if an improper shut down (that occurs when the eectricty goes out) is harmful.Becasue i am not using my laptop due to this electricity issue which is causing improper shut down's.

It`s not really harmful, but when you do restart make sure you catch the boot screen and choose "Start Windows Normally" or windows might go into a repair mode.

Hmmm
I see.Now that i remember,the last time i had to do a "System Repair" Check Up after boot.Perhaps it was becasue i missed the Boot Screen and then i was asked to do a System Restore or other options...
In any case,i hope that consistent Improper shutdown's do not cause harm.Like today,i was supposed to have breakfast with some relatives and i left my laptop ON with Updates installing.Electricity went out and came back after an hour or so.
I selected START WINDOWS NORMALLY from the options and the updates started getting installed ...

Is the battery bad in the laptop? The battery should provide enough time to let the laptop go into hibernation.

Yes

Battery is bad & my laptop only works as long as it is plugged in.
But i don't mind using it like that...

The correct answer is... it depends. If there is cached data that hasn't yet been written to disk or if the system was writing something to the disk when the power goes off it could corrupt files and foul things up. Of course, if you have files open such as a word document and the laptop shuts off you will lose any unsaved changes. You may get away with the sudden shutdowns for awhile but one day it will get you and corrupt files.

If you continue to use your laptop in this manner, at minimum, I would make sure to keep good backups. The best solution would be to replace the battery in the laptop, another possible solution would be to connect the laptop to a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply).

Good advice . . . in addition, setting restore points periodically will let you go back to a stable system if for some reason a sudden shutdown causes operating system problems. Be aware that dropping back to restore point should be a means of last resort to solve a problem as it can create some issues as well, especially if you've installed new software or made other operating system mods since the last restore point.

You are lucky windows went back to installing the updates, usually if windows gets shutdown or is rebooted during updates, bad things can happen.

Thank you all i.e AddRAM , dadan112 , UsernameIssues , strollin & jalind for your suggestions.I was living in a country for a short stay (Like 3 weeks).There,the electricity breakouts was a normal thing.

I am back to the country where i was living before.And here.Electricity never goes out

Still , i appreciate the replies & suggestions...
