My system crashed this a.m. after a MS update installation. When I checked for a restore point, I had NONE. Even though Win7 has told me it was creating one after updates before.

Fortunately, I was able to uninstall the update and get past the black screen which told me it couldn't reach Event notification [or something] and get online.

Where should I look to see why restore points are not being created, and how do I fix it? BTW, I searched and read many messages about this, but couldn't find what I needed to know. TIA.....

I don't know how to post screenshots [yet], but my first problem is finding what you want to see. Every time I open up something in that area, it looks like it is going to do a restore... which is not what I want. I just want to find the settings. Yes... I'm a nervous Nellie. ;)

Even though I have had Win7 a year now [coming from XP], I feel my knowledge of it equates to about two weeks. [Still groping to find things.] You may not want to fool with me.

It shows that SysPro is ON, and that 8.11GB of my 10.00GB max. is in use. Yet I have no weekly restore points showing.

9. When the restore point has finished being created, click on the Close button. (See screenshot below)

This? Yes... but I'm not sure what that's telling me. I haven't tried to create one yet. :)

Thanks for all of your help... I think with all these tutorials I will be able to create a restore point when I have more time to fool with this. I really appreciate it.

Still wish I had XP back. ;)

Forgot to say my configuration was exactly as shown in your screenshot.

BTW restore points are created when:
  • You create one manually
  • Software installation
  • Software uninstall
  • windows update installation
  • You do a "system restore". So you can undo the system restore.
  • Once a week if no restore point has been made last 7 days (by things described above). A scheduled task runs each day to check if this is the case. If so... it creates a restore point.
