Solved Are the gaming days over for windows 7?

Hi,

I know that windows 7 can still play today's games, but is it just me or are almost everybody gaming on Windows 10 or 8 nowadays?

I see gaming setups on Instagram with 8 and 10. I never or rarely see any setups of 7 or YouTube videos of 7 gaming setups either, unless they're several years old.

Is this the end for windows 7 being the majority OS for gaming?

This might be a weird question but I'm curious to see what other people think about this

Doubt very seriously
7 still owns the market place of usage and steam... would not put all their eggs in 8-10 basket
Developers well they will feel the need if sells aren't good and include 7 if hardware is capable for the new games
Hopefully hardware will rule more than an os that is used
But directx12 is here so those games will have to be designed for x11 too as far as I know ?
Money rules not os's.

I think they will design for Win 10 and if they can manage it, retain compatibility with Win 7.

Money does talk, but from what I saw at last count, 110 million users had switched to Windows 10, that's not including sales of new PCs (AFAIK). The problem with that is that developers will look at those figures, see a trend, and phase out support for Windows 7.

In light of Microsoft's new aggressive "take it or else" upgrade policy for Windows 10, I see an even larger migration to Windows 10 in 2016. Users will eventually tire of all of the workarounds to avoid upgrading (or worse yet, it will be forced), and basically do the upgrade to get rid of all of the nags and subversion. This means a quick retirement for Windows 7 as far as game support is concerned. Also, with DirectX 12 in the mix...

I doubt that DirectX 12 will be available for Windows 7... ever.

Microsoft will never improve Windows 7 for games or other wise.

Remember Microsoft's Windows 7 competes against Microsoft's W-10 and they want W-10 to win.
Microsoft's operating systems don't compete against other branded operating systems. Microsoft is competing against Microsoft.

Why do you think Windows 7 Updates are such a head ache. Microsoft is trying to run us to W-10.
Microsoft hasn't forgot how to allocate servers and bandwidth, they have chose to put Windows 7 Updates on the short end of the stick. They are trying to tell us without words they are in control and are going to spank us for not going to W-10.

This forum has many threads of people trying to get back to Windows 7. Hell this forum has one thread with over a 100,000 viewers try to figure how to get back to Windows 7.

Now just think of all the other forums on the net with people trying to make a (U) turn back to Windows 7 from W-10. It's got to be millions.

After the boondoggle of Windows 8 I think game manufactures are in the wait and see if W-10 makes it. I think W-10 will make it when the big boys at Microsoft get their head out of orifice they have it in now.

Of course this is just my opinion.

Microsoft has no major competitors when it comes to operating systems.
They have had around 90% of market share for a very long time.

They have got their money for Windows 7 thru the years and now it is a expense to keep it updated.

The time will come when they will sell, lease, rent W-10 and once again bring in cash.

Microsoft need something to sell and a new operating system every couple of years is one way of doing just that.
The problem is that many people like Windows 7 and don't want to buy W-10.

Microsoft makes no money updating old operating systems.
Microsoft makes money selling new operating systems.
It's that simple.

The answer to the problem is also simple.
Make a new operating system that a billion people want to buy.

I've also noticed they haven't listened to the customer's suggestions during the preview that much. Maybe it's what they need.

Why would they listen to customer feedback? They barely listened with Win 8 and its feedback program.

They have a monopoly and have had it for years. They dictate what we use for an OS and the masses eat it up. They have us by the short hair and they know it. They can and do anything that they want.

Sadly, we're the ones who have to live with their myopic vision when it comes to OS design.

Well in a way we have a choice and it's using our bank account.
That is what happened to Windows 8. People just didn't buy many of them.
