Solved Are two ways to see installed updates identical?

(1) In Control Panel > system security > windowsUpdate > view update history AND (2) in Programs > programs & features > Installed updates are lists of updates that are done.
Should both lists be the same or not? If not, why not?
I can't seem to find any information about both ways to look at updates.

Hi 91,

There are 2 different lists in the updates section, top and bottom of Update GUI...
and yes they can be different as they are looked for in 2 different folders.

I am not aware of any updates, with a KB prefix in the programs and features listing.
Only by name, NetframeWork/Visual C++ and certain drivers.
(A screenshot of these would be handy)

Thank you. I probably don't understand your answer
what I see under scenario (1), update history are KB4038777 (cumulative), KB4041083(.Net), 890830(MSRT), but under scenario (2) installed updates show only 4038777 matches. The others are KB4019990, KB4040973 and KB4040980. As you can see the lists don't match. Those 3 extras seem to have something to do with the .net pest but I can't be sure.
I can post screenshots I caught when I saw it, since this is from the last patch day, but think it's pointless to waste forum space. Do you still want them?

BTW, this is weird: Software Distribution report agrees with scenario (1). Belarc report agrees with scenario (2). Go figure.

Thats not weird at all.

"missing" updates can be explained in 3 ways
1) the user can uninstall/remove them.
2) the system removes them.
3) Windows update reset

1) These are removed via the INSTALLED updates - option ONLY available via this section
2) The system cleans them in 2 ways
a) the Disk clean-up option
b) Cumulative update,
items removed can be seen in the CBS log foder.
3) If you reset windows Updates, the Distribution download folder is renamed
system shows last installed date as never.

Aha, that's the logic. Makes sense. And I should've seen it in the header. I suspect that the updates under installed will vanish on the next patch or when M$ runs disk cleanup. Will be interesting to see. As admin, I tried looking in CBS logs. Those .cab files unzip to enormous logs. I'm not snooping there because it will be next century when a notepad manages to open them.
