Arranging Files In A Folder

I have a folder containing song titles from a CD. I would like to rearrange the titles in my own way, not alphabetically, as happens automatically. How can I customize the folder so that the files will be in the order that I place them and will not revert to alphabetically when the folder is reopened? Thanks.

or you can use the details view and choose what data for the files to see. You can sort the files by whatever criteria you want - asuming there is media information stored in the files.

"...I would like to rearrange the titles in my own way, not alphabetically,..."

As they are songs, you should not interfere with the titles so in a simple files folder they will take a fixed order automaticaly. Create a library in Windows Media Player where you can set the play order - if that is what you want - any way you like.

You can also number them in the order you want. I.e. right click and Change Name. Prefix 01-, 02- and so on will give you 99 in the order you choose. 001- will give 999.

Did you try the disable auto arrange that I linked you to in my post?
Thanks goes to Brink of course for his tutorial on this very subject of auto aranging. I also like to thank the Thread Starter dogwalkman for posting this. My brother asked me for a solution for this very thing just last week and now I can email him the answer. He was making a slideshow in Windows DVD Maker and couldn't get his pictures to stay in the order that he wanted. :D
