I was in the process of downloading an app and along came with it the info of Ask toolbar. I unchecked the 2 box's that are shown, telling them i do not want it, and voila...somehow i did. I checked P and F, its not there, nor the ASK publisher, and yet there is no way that i can remove the toolbar. I read some other posts here and it seems that if one wants to remove it, you always have to download something else..ie...AVG anti virus free. Is there no way to get rid of this tool bar without having to d/l a program of whatever sort in order to get rid of it? I removed the program that i d/l that got me it in the first place..but I still have it. Nothing shown in my add ons/extensions that shows it...so how can i get rid of it? Anyone know?

You can remove the Ask Toolbar by using their utility;

http://apnmedia.ask.com/media/toolbar/utilities/ApnRemover.exe

After downloading the utility, please close all open browser windows. Then run the utility; after it completes, please restart your computer. Restarting the computer is necessary to complete the removal.
Note to Chrome users: After restarting, you may still see Ask as your default search engine or default home page. If so, please refer to this article to change those settings:
Note to Firefox users: After restarting, you may still see Ask as your default search provider in Firefox. If so, please refer to this article.

Note to Internet Explorer users: After restarting, you may still see Ask as your default search engine or default home page. If so, please refer to this article to change those settings:
Note to OS X users: This article has instructions specific to Safari, Chrome and Firefox in OS X.

I have never had to remove the "Ask Toolbar" so I don't know if AVG is included in the removal tool. My best guess is that it would not be included, but that's just a guess.

NO, that was the first place i looked and then I checked extensions and nothing there either with "ASK". I went to my Firefox browser View tab and checked the tab "toolbars' and somehow my toolbar is not shown anymore...Go figure.

Another way is to use CCleaner(Tools - Startup) to disable or delete toolbars/plugins/extensions from browsers.

This article suggests resetting the browser.

Sorry, what is CCleaner? As far as startup to disable or delete toolbars and etc...why those? Anyway, its like I said, apparently I do not have it anymore unless its lurking somewhere, behind the scenes.

Sometimes toolbars can add entries in your Startup. One thing you can do is check Program Files or Program Files (x86) and ensure no folders remain.

Go to Start and type regedit into the search bar and press enter

In regedit, press F3 > type *ask* and then when that finishes type *toolbar* Do not do anything, if you get results, post them here in a screen shot

Now download autoruns from here: Autoruns for Windows

Once you download it, unzip the folder and extract autoruns.exe to your desktop. Right-click autoruns.exe and click Run as Administrator

After autoruns finishes populating, right-click and delete all yellow entries.

Now for full disclosure, is this excessive for Ask toolbar? Sure, but if you check the places I mention above and you don't find anything, then the toolbar is most likely completely gone.

Thnx all...will get CCleaner...it looks cool. As far as c hecking program files and '86, i saw nothing resembling ASK, nor in regedit...so I guess Firefox/view/toolbars did if for me.
