My friend is having trouble for 2 years now to uninstall the (god awful) Ask Toolbar that has been sneakily installed on his device.
He disabled it in all his browsers (except that it seems to automatically re-enable itself in Internet Explorer)
and resetted all the damage it did to those browsers, but he cannot seem to be able to uninstall the actual software itself.
Everytime he tries to do it, he gets the following error message:
Error message 1316 A network error occurred while attempting to read the file C:\Windows\Installer\Ask Toolbar.msi
We have tried numerous things, to no avail:
Uninstall with CCleaner and Revo Uninstaller gave exactly the same error.
Running Adwcleaner gives him a BSOD after pressing the "remove" button. (Ask toolbar does not seem to be the only adware on his PC according to adwcleaner however)
We have tried 2 times so far, with 2 different BSOD error messages. (which I think are currently not really of any concern? Correct me if I am wrong)
We have found other solutions like manually deleting the installed files & folders and the registry keys with regedit, but we cannot seem to search and identify the reg keys from Ask toolbar. (also we do not really want to take the risk)
