Asrock RAM Issues

Hello,
I had a ram issue which I spent all yesterday finding out the problem and cause.

What happens if I put the bigger DDR3 RAM in all slots will detect it but once I put the smaller ddr3 ram in which is same speed and different brand though it wont be recognized in the last two ports.

Im stumped could it be the motherboard? I don't see that since all slots seem to work But anything is possible. Or could the ram be on its way out which in that case I buy another one of my bigger rm (Apacer) to replace it.

Ram is a funny beast and it's always best to get matching sticks (sets). Mixing brands is also a gamble. Go to ASRocks site and look for approved ram modules. I have my fav's.

For a few days thought it could of been the board the slots work by testing it.

Maybe I should buy a 2 dual channel kits and use that in the board.

Right now I'm running on 2gb to be on safe side putting the other ram in the top port might do damage who knows.

I'm would run a set or sets (4 channel) of GSkills and just call it a day. Sell the old sticks off !

This I the model and its not on the list Kingston kvr133ds8n9 might be why then so be better of getting a ram kit. I use my 2gb stick for now.

Thinking about selling my small stick first but no one seems to buy them on eBay.

Yep just keep the larger of the the two in the rig and save up for a killer set of ram. I think 1600 or 1866 is the perfect sweet spot for speed but if you get a deal on faster modules and the mobo can't OC or tune to it, it just backs off to what it can run at.

For some reason when I put the smaller ram on the top slot and the bigger one in the third slot it would only detect the smaller ram...
I took the smaller ram out now the bigger one I not being detected just a black screen :/ weird

Tried to put each in a2 and b2 only the small one is being detected in port2 but now not in other ports and the bigger stick does not work in any ports now. It always starts happening when I put the small ram stick in

I tested the sticks by them selfs and together

Maybe its time to RMA or get a new board with a tight budget and go back to using my slow un gaming 1995 system

what I find funny is never had. Problem using the 1 stick now the probable returns.

I would RMAS the ASRock board, it seems you got one with bad RAM slots. Pay no attention to a board's QVL list, they don't bother testing much at all.

Use this: G.SKILL - RAM Configurator Then go to the RAM you want and they will have their own QVL list for which they guarantee RAM to work if it's on the specific board/RAM combo list.

Ok i will check that out.
Also my PCI slots are also having issues and my on board audio is blown...

Never seen so much issues on a board and the shop I got it from won't offer any support he told me not to come back like where's the customer support?
not to mention the heat sink bolt snapped off so that's voids the warranty think it was a setup as I was being careful like I usually do.

Confused whether the ram is not compatible an moving them wscrews the voltage or the board is on its way out..

It sounds like you're a bit rough on the board, physically.

I had a Asus board and never any issues and I'm always gentle so I don't break anything.

Never had issues with my old 1995 gigabyte board.

I also never overclocked

Hard to tell if its the ram or not :/

The slots work then don't work..

How long has this new mobo been in your system? Did this problem begin right away or develop later? Could you have and extra stand off or misplaced mobo stand off?

Only 2 months the problems started day 1

First windows crashed didn't think much of it so I re installed Windows.
A few weeks the later the had would randomly loose power which would freeze system.

What more frustrating I have a channel to manage with 10,00 views

Going to sell the whole system on gumtree to get another board luckily I have another case I can use for now..

Can you recommend the best but good budget wise atx board and apu?

I think a replacement mobo is where you're headed. Maybe back to ASUS although I've built two systems on ASRock boards and both rocked !

Aussie vs USA pricing is vastly different. You want to stick with a A series AMD APU chip? I wish you were closer I have a killer 8 core bulldozer with crossfired MSI 5770's with maybe 10 hours on it that would rock your world !

I am selling the system as faulty $300 Negotiable on gumtree with the CPU and drives hope that sells should be enough to get new CPU and a Asus motherboard. Gigabyte seems alright as will

Then I work getting a hard drive but for now I have a old 1995 gigabyte system I am using for the meantime surprisingly it still gets basic tasks and web designing done

I put the old board in the newer case.
