ASUS Maximus V Formula BIOS issue Win7x64 fully updated then dies

I have found some bits that sound like my issue, but none that fix it.

It seems that I have had issues ever since the KB3133977 update. For some reason I never saw anything related to it, and ended up reinstalling Windows, or somehow recovering with a chkdsk in dos. My most recent incident is still active and I can't manage to get around it. Here is what I have done;

Freshly formatted Seagate 2TB drive with Windows 7 64 bit installed, got past the update problem and had all updates done and computer working smoothly. Started getting some things that I like installed. Mostly Wargaming.net games. Was able to use all of them with no apparent issues.

The last thing I did before it all went downhill was to install Adobe Creative Suite 4. Seems like I used Photoshop one or two times before I shut the pc off one night. The next morning it kept trying to repair itself. Booting from my DVD tends to tell me that the disk is not compatible with that version of Windows. I was able to run chkdsk /f/r. That took about 6 hours, but completed without anything tragic.

For the last couple of days I have been wrestling with this UEFI/BIOS issue, thinking that might be the answer. I have tried just about every setting. Some settings boot and say Operating System Missing, while others boot once, reset and got to system repair. I would love to remove the KB3133977 update, but since the OS will not start, I'm not able to do that in a traditional fashion. Could that be done through the DOS prompt?

Any idess to make this work without going back to square one again, would be appreciated.

Thanks!

This might help.

Go into bios and turn off Secure Boot.

Tick on access denied and you will find a possible cure from Asus.

Hi,
I don't believe disabling secure boot is a option or at least not in my asus bios
But the nutshell of the link posted already is changing OS Type to Other OS and not windows uefi compatibility mode which this update messed up.
Bottom line is Research updates before downloading and installing them :)

Hi,
The update in general was a silly release by Microsoft
It applies to a feature home premium and pro versions win-7 can't even use = Bitlocker  :D

Thanks for the replies. Those are things that I have tried. In advanced mode the BIOS allows me to disable secure boot. I've also tried using the 'Other OS' method, to no avail. I've tried resetting to defaults on the BIOS and still get nothing. Even tried all possible combinations of these methods. There have been a few settings that will end up telling me that there is no operating system.

Hi,
Depending on how 7 was installed you might need to use uefi only in boot options ?
Do you remember how many if any system reserved partitions there were after the install ?
Normally there would be only 1-100mb system reserved created = many of us do not have any and don't want any created :)
Some others are bold and format crazy and create 2 manually to install with uefi only in mind for new hardware restrictions.

Just for kicks, I did this again. Sorry no pics to prove it to you. Nothing different than before. It boots to the 'Starting Windows' screen, then resets to the startup repair screen.

Also tried to uninstall the KB3133977 update using the 'wusa' method explained here. I ended up with a fatal error. Not sure if there are other updates that depend on this one, and might need to be pulled out in order. Any ideas on that?

I didn't do anything crazy, just the one system partition that was created during the process. The thing that bugs me the most is that, it was working really well for almost 2 weeks, until I installed Adobe CS4. Not sure if that was a coincidence or what.

Go into msconfig

Select Startup and uncheck everything Asobe CS4.
Then go to Services and put a check mark in Non Microsoft Services and uncheck everything Adobe. Reboot and see if that helps.

I take it you did not do a Clean Startup. Is that correct?

Unfortunately, I can't get to any start menu, or get to any point that even lets me flex administrative privileges.

From another tip I tried running sfc /scannow. This gives me a message saying "there is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart Windows and run sfc again. Unfortunately I can't get windows to boot completely.
