I have an Asus G73JH laptop. I recently had to format my hard drive and I had windows 7 reinstalled. When I go to the Asus support site to update my drivers some of them tell me that I don't have the min requirements to get the drivers and some others tell me that they are only for an Asus.

I would greatly appreciate any help with this situation.

nice laptop. Looks like it actually has a discrete hd5870 graphics processor you should be able to get those drivers from amd's site.

System

  • Chipset: Intel
  • Chipset model: HM55
That should be all the information you need to look on intel's site for chipset drivers.

Sometimes you have a bit more trouble with laptops but you seem to have a nicely put together one there.

Ahh, thank you very much. If you could link me a download to get all the drivers I need or perhaps a program to find the downloads I need for my laptop it would be great. I've never had to do a clean install of windows and get all my drivers back manually so this is pretty much the first time I have ever even looked for them. So, any more help you can give me will be great!

I actually saw someone raving about a driver finding app the other day here, but I can't for the life of me remember the name of it.
Hopefully one of the other regs will see this and post it.
It's not something I personally use.
Though it is possible this web tool from intel might find something for you automatically as well.

This is assuming I have the correct information regarding this laptop model.

Thanks very much! I got the Graphics Drivers updated and now I just need those Intel Updates. Do have an idea of why my laptop might not be considering itself an asus? Some of the programs that run when I start it up tell me that they can only be run on an asus.

Probably some proprietary stuff from asus that doesn't want to work if their oem disk isn't used for the windows installation.

I doubt it's anything you actually need.
In fact I would run this and see if it finds anything.
Welcome | The PC Decrapifier
It's not a perfect tool but it gets rid of all the stuff manufacturers put on that windows doesn't actually need.

Alright, thanks. Do you know why my function keys might not be working as well? The only ones that work is the ones that shut off the screen and increase/decrease its brightness.

that is asus specific more than likely.
Go here
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
then find and click the download tab, and select win 7 x64.
There you should find everything you need in a drop down list. If the display driver I linked worked, I would keep that and not replace it with the one asus has, as I can promise you the one from ati is more recent.

DO NOT UPDATE THE BIOS AT THIS TIME

Yes it did, thank you very much. Why shouldn't I update the BIOS?

because you aren't suffering a specific problem related to the bios being out of date it's not worth the risk. There is a risk, however small it may be, that the bios flash will fail. If that happens the computer will not even power on properly anymore.

Ahh, okay. I ran the PC Decrapifier and It didn't find anything. Do you have an idea as to why my keyboard won't illuminate? I'm sorry I have so many questions, I didn't think there would be this many problems, haha.

I haven't personally gotten my hands on that model of laptop. It could be something as simple as a button not being pressed.

Under 'others' on that driver page at asus I noticed several things you probably want, including the storage driver for that board, and some utility related to the keyboard.

Yeah, I got all those. The one I was missing was the ATK. Once I got it everything starting running fine and it recognized itself as an Asus again.
