Seems that the bulk of W7/Coffee Lake success relies upon a fresh O/S install.

Here, an SSD with a working W7 from the old box boots fine. But no matter what 'flavor' of mouse/keyboard port is used, neither function works. Understandable, on this ASUS Prime z390-A system.

Has anyone come up with a sure-fire, straightforward method to locate and install needed drivers?

A post to Reddit states:
"Yes you can install windows 7 on 300 series motherboards (at least on ASUS)

either by using an already existing installation (tested) or by fresh install. In BIOS there is a setting for enabling windows 7 compatibility for the USB ports, making them behave like PS/2. The drivers can be installed manually from device manager using the provided dvd as a source. Sound, USB2 + 3 and LAN work as well."

A search in the BIOS here reveals no such setting. Comments welcomed.

You can use the ps2 connector - I think there is only one on that board, annoyingly.

EDIT: Win7 usb3 drivers and graphics drivers for 8th/9th gen now available
Update your Win 7 installation media

Plugged in an old PS keyboard. Win 7 doesn't see it.

The thread in the link has been checked out, but it seems to mainly deal with a fresh install which is not the intent here.

Thanks for chipping in!

Same problem

The motherboard has 2 USB 2.0 ports but Windows 7 does not see any mouse or keyboard plugged into them. Adding the USB 3.0 drivers to windows 7 and plugging the mouse/keyboard into the USB 3.0 ports also does not seem to work. Have run into a brick wall trying to install windows 7 with this motherboard.

Does anyone have any other ideas?
