Asus UX310UQ Windows 7 install not starting

Hi everyone,

I cannot get the Win7 install process to start for a new Asus Zenbook UX310UQ (UEFI+GPT). I created a USB key with Rufus. It gets to "A required CD/DVD driver is missing". I tried loading drivers manually for:
- Intel(R)_USB_3.0_eXtensible_Host_Controller_Driver_5.0.4.43
- Intel_RST_RAID_driver_x64_14.5.0.1081

with the idea that it does not recognize something properly either with the USB stick itself, or with the internal drives. The drivers are recognized as being appropriate, but still "no new devices detected".

Other things I tried:
- booting from an external optical drive from the Windows DVD
- trying both the USB 2 and USB 3 ports

Any ideas? Thanks!

PS:
- if you have any ideas how to get the Win7x64 drivers easily (I got the two above via hardware IDs) it would also help

Hello and welcome trieper mate it might just be that your new machine will not support 7 as I can only find drivers and very few at thta for Windows 10.

I think yur best bet is to contact Asus by phone or email and find out exactly what OS the machine will support.

Now I did see recently someone who also had a Kabylake core and found a way to install 7 drivers but I think for memory it was very difficult and needs a fair bit of work to do that. Actually I was under the impression that Asus machines with the Kabylake CPU and Microsoft had made it so that their machines would only support 10.

Welcome to the Forum.

Fist of all, make the Factory Recover disks. If something goes wrong you can restore as it came from Asus.
To install win 7 on the Zenbook UX310UQ won't be an easy task.
- To install Win 7 you must disable Fast boot and secure boot on BIOS.
- Win 7 installation disk doesn't have USB3.x, new SATA and M.2 drivers. You must add them to the Win 7 installation disk.

We need more information on your storage drives. Does it has M.2 drive? What size and brand / model?
Does it has NVidia Graphics? Does NVidia has win 7 drives for it?

Well I for one think this is going to be a long haul because I cannot find any way os installing 7 drivers on what is meant to e a 10 machine.

Now I have this machine I am on right now that was originally 8 and bought downgraded to 7 and the only way I could install 7 drivers was to update the BIOS first. Now this worked for me but seeing as the machine started life as a 10 machine I am not so sure if a similar move would work on that machine. As it is mucking around with the BIOS being the sometimes risky business it is if it were me I would be doing what I said earlier and contacting Asus.

Generic saying, all MB till 5th generation are compatible with win 7.
New MB that has been created target to Win 10 (Intel skylake and Kabylake and AMD Rysen) can have Win 7 installed as long you can disable secure boot on BIOS. You'll have to add USB3.x, SATA drivers and / or M.2 mvme drivers to the installation disk.
