Starting with build 7201, the Asus Xonar DX drivers render the OS effectively useless. Basically after installing, you'll find your system unresponsive no matter what you do or how many times you reboot. Everything appears to start up fine until you try to launch any application.

If you're stuck in this situation after installing the Xonar drivers on 7201, my suggestion is to boot into the recovery console and use system restore to return to a point prior to installing the drivers. I tried several versions before I gave up and am going back to 7137.

A workaround

Had the same problem, and I discovered a solution that lets you use 7201 and the Xonar drivers in relative harmony. First, open up your taskmanager and end the following processes:

hsmgr.exe
hsmgr64.exe

And voila, everything instantly works fine. Of course, you'll also want to prevent those processes from running on boot. This isn't a perfect fix, as it'll prevent 'GX2.0' from working (i.e., you'll lose EAX emulation in games).

Anyone know if this is fixed in newer builds? I've stuck with 7100 since I ran into the problem with 7201.

There are actually a couple of ways to fix this but the easiest way is to get the patch for the Asus Xonar drivers from the "Vista" section at the Asus driver site and install it, it's right at the top of the page but you need to choose Vista as your Op system in order to see it.

You will need to uninstall the Asus Xonar sound card drivers first because IE wont work without the patch.

It's also best to "not" reboot after you install the Xonar drivers so that you can install the patch, then reboot and everything will work properly.

This problem as been here since build 7200. I came up with another fix which is to disable the "HsMgr.exe*32" file in system configuration but the patch came out like a day later and it works also.

I suspect you're talking about the first patch listed in the Audio section of the following list?

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?model=Xonar DX&os=25&SLanguage=en-us

If so, it seems odd that a more recent Windows 7 beta driver pack doesn't contain whatever this patch is applying.

Yes it's even odder that they do not mention the fix for Win 7 in the patch but none the less it works perfectly I can assure you. And you don't need to delate any files and it only takes about one second to install the patch.

Yes it's the patch at the top of the list on the Vista driver page.

So you see there is no reason to avoid the newer builds if you are using the Asus Xonar sound card because everything works perfectly once you install the patch.

Don't forget to tip my scale guys. This fix works perfectly I absolutely guarantee it. ;)

I am just about to install the drivers for this card myself, I can't see any patch, is one still needed? Both Vista and 7 are Version: 7.12.8.1794

Is it this patch?

"Patch file for Xonar serial audio cards
1. Fix the game "Command&Conquer:The First Decade" won''t start with comitability mode.
2. Fix the game " World of Warcraft" may hang sometimes.
3. Please install the latest driver first and then install this patch file"

It's right above the 1764 driver on the Vista 64 page.

So, I am wondering should I just go ahead and install the 1794 driver for Vista or 7?
