Ati 3850 on Win 7 64bit

Hi all!

Well since I just started toying with video editing, I decided to use my old PC for encoding, since the graphic card is supported in Adobe Premiere CS4 with the AMD plugin, it would actually render vido faster then my current i5.

So after installing Win 7 64bit I noticed that my graphic card simply does not function as it should I googled a bit and ended up reading this thread;

All well and good but I get stuck at the 1st step since the .inf file is made for a 32bit system So I cannot install it (not via the right button and install nor the windows hardware manager)

So I was wondering can this be done on a 64bit system? Kind of does not have a point going back to XP or 7 32bit since the processor is Quad Core.

Any tips are appreciated.

AGP is obsolete, BUT.... [I realize you are mostly stuck, old PC and all, but not going to ever be a fast encoder as a result of this, but if goal is just to offload this duty from main PC, OK if video drivers for 64-bit won't play nice, I'd re-image to 32-bit.]

I'd snoop around guru3d.com for drivers.

You've tried a recent Catalyst 64-bit and it won't install or find that card either?

I suggest you fill in specs of this desktop as your MY SYSTEM SPECS, also.

I managed to have a HD 4670 AGP card to work in windows 7 64bit by installing Catalyst Control Center 10.7, which should work fine for your card as well.
I downloaded the package from here (my card manufacturer's site, HIS, remarkably competent, choose the "64 vista" one and don't worry), and I never found other places giving me stuff that worked.

Theoretically there is this page that gives you hotfixes and drivers and whatnot to run your card on win 7 but it never worked for me.

32 bit only means your system won't see more than 3.5 GB or so of RAM regardless of how much there is actually in the slots. It will have some very very minor performance loss, but since you are using the card as the main number-cruncher it's won't matter at all.

But yeah, if you can try to keep it 64 bit.
