ATI AHCI Compatible RAID Driver

Manually installing the driver did nothing for me. It is still listed as the old driver (8/16/2007). The version number is 2.5.1540.48. I can't get the new one to install. Oddly, the controller is now listed as AMD ACHI Compatible Controller and NOT ATI. Anyone? I am at a loss.

walman01, what is the date of the driver you're manually installing?

I see what the problem is. My sys file is old. How do I load the new one?

I'm trying to do a manual install that way dr0 but it keeps telling me that it can't find the software in the folder... Here's exactly what I did:

Done while AMD AHCI Compatible RAID Controller has NO drivers (I uninstalled them)
Device Manager -> Select AMD AHCI Compatible RAID Controller
right click -> update driver software
Click Browse my Computer for Software
Navigate to the folder you listed
Select folder "C:\ATI\Support\9-10_vista32-64_raid\Packages\Drivers\SBDrv\SB7xx\RAID\LH"
Press Next

Get error message:
Windows was unable to install your RAID controller
Windows could not find driver software for your device

If the same steps above are repeated but WITH the 8/16/2007 driver release I get the error message:
The best driver software for your device is already installed.

Any ideas? Walman what'd you do to solve your problem and what do you mean your sys file was out of date?

Go to the link below and download the Display Driver, AHCI Driver and Raid Driver. Follow my map so you won't be too confused. It's right under the link.

Drivers & Support | GAME.AMD.COM

The Display Driver can be found under: ATI Radeon Video Card Drivers > Indivisual Catalyst Components > Windows 7 link.

AHCI and Raid Driver can be found under: Mother Board/Intergrated Video Drivers > Indivisual Driver(MotherBoard/Chipset) > Windows 7 link.

Next you will need a flash driver, cd, or floppy because you are going to copy the driver there. But please keep reading, because we are not going to copy the catalyst, we are going to go straight into the folders and get the drivers.

Next go in your C drive. Go to ATI. Go to Support. All your drivers are there. Now find only the ones you downloaded for this installation, should be no more then 3. Ahci, raid (don't really need this one) and Display.

Go into the folders. Then go to packages, then drivers, keep clicking the right folder till u get to the name of the driver you looking for. Here I'll map out the route. I'm going straight to the 32bit drivers, so common sense should be able to tell you how to find the 64.

Alright, the first folder you will have to work your way into is the 9-10_vista32_win7_32_dd folder.

Click 9-10_9-10_vista32_win7_32_dd > packages > drivers > display: (You ill see a W7_INF (32bit) and/or W76A_INF (64bit) folder, copy one of the two to your flash, disk or floppy.

Now the next folder will be 9-10_win7_32_64_ahci so...

Click 9-10_win7_32-64_ahci > packages > drivers >SBDrv > SB7xx > AHCI (You will see the folder W7 (32bit) and/or W764A (64bit) copy one of the two to a flash, cd or floppy).

Last but not least if you need it the raid driver. We will not be loading this driver but you should put it on your flash incase u need it after installation.)

Click 9-10_win7_32-64_raid > packages > apps > VC8RTx86 > vcredist_x86 > (you can copy this on you flash for after you install windows it will not load as a driver).

Alright, so after you saved the drivers to a flash, floppy or burned it to a disc. Run windows setup. Click the version you want, click clean install (don't worry, it will save all ur old files and programs to a folder titled 'windowsold'.) Select the partition you will like to use so windows can temporary install it self on while its setting up. (I recommend drive C anything else may screw things up). DO NOT CLICK NEXT!

Now, you will notice at the bottom of the same drive choosing screen you see something that says load drivers. This is where ur display and ahci driver will come into place.

Click load driver, click browse in the pop up, go to whatever you use to load your drivers on. (if you used a cd, it is okay to take the windows 7 cd out and put the cd in you put the drivers on. but after we load all the drivers, before anything put the windows 7 cd back in and let it run for a few seconds to catch up).

Once you have clicked brows click on which ever you saved the drivers to. Click the AHCI folder, you should see either a another folder that says 'W7' (32bit) or 'WT64A (64bite). click which ever one you are trying to install then hit okay.

Drivers will come up under the Select driver to be installed. If you do not see drivers, that's okay because on some laptops you will have to uncheck the box right over the browse button that says "Hide drivers that are not compatible with hardware on this computer." (they are, just not tested yet which is why we have the AHCI RAID CONTROLLER PROBLEM).

Alright there should be two drivers. Click on the first one, hit next. A warning or something may pop up, just click okay. It takes you back to drive select screen, make sure its on the C driver again and hit load driver. Go back to the same folder and load the second one.

Next we gotta do the second set of drivers. So go to load driver, browse, look for the'W7' (32bit) or 'WT64A' (64bit) folder. There will be three drivers. remember if you do not see three you will need to uncheck the "Hide drivers that are not compatiable with hardware aon this computer," box. Load all three just like you did the other two.
Note: It will not show what drivers you loaded, but they will be loaded.

Finally, like normal after you load the last driver you go back to select drive screen, again make sure C is selected and click next. Hopefully you are on your way to a succesful installation of Windows7.

Whenever I restarted after manually installing the driver, the old .sys file kept coming back and replacing the new one. So, I finally had to rename the old one, and copy and pasted the the new sys file into the Windows/System32/drivers folder. Then it worked. It still took a little forcing, but I installed Windows 7 and it is up and running. Thanks again for your help guys!!

It's just as walman said. You must go into your C:/ATI/Support/..... up to your driver as listed by dr0 and copy the .sys file. From there copy and REPLACE the .sys file located in your C:/windows/system32/driver directory. From there don't restart, just directly try and do windows 7.... one thin I noticed, even after replacing the .sys file the device manager didn't think a new driver was there but upon trying windows 7 install it worked perfectly.

I now have Windows 7 installed! It took some persuading that the driver in the folder I was pointing it to was what I really wanted to install, I can't remember exactly what I did without the computer in front of me (reluctant to look here as I'm on a work computer and if any IT people walked past I'd probably get told off as they'd think I was actually trying to mess up hardware drivers rather than just see what the menus are) but I think rather than looking in a folder for a driver I had to do something slightly different to get it to pick a particular file. Otherwise even if it found the driver it refused to install it on the grounds of assuming the current one was better. After selecting the .sys file it gave a choice of three, I picked the most generic one (name not longest or shortest) and then everything worked.

I'm trying to install the Win7 32-Bit upgrade on my Dell Inspiron 1721 laptop and I get an error that says that I need to update my ATI AHCI Compatible RAID Driver. I went into the Update Device Drivers as suggested in the instructions and tried to upgrade that driver, but it says I have the latest driver for it. So I tried restarting my laptop and ran the upgrade setup again, and got the same error message.

Any ideas on what I need to do to get it to upgrade? I tried searching all over and can not find a newer version than what I have (2.5.1540.48).

Hello guys!

I have a Dell Inspiron 1721 and I'm thinking about upgrading the OS from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate. As I read on this and other forums, there has been a problem installing Windows 7, but I see you have managed to pass this problem. So I have a few questions:

Did you try to do a clean install of Windows 7 or you just upgraded from Windows Vista?
If i try to do a clean install, will it let me to install it and use it? (except the part with the ATI AHCI Compatible RAID driver, where I understood that I have to manually upgraded).

I upgraded (to home, not ultimate) and it worked easily after the RAID upgrade. I haven't even found any programmes that need reinstalling yet.

What about performance? At least, my Dell sucks with Windows Vista installed. It takes up to 4-5 minutes to boot (with Widget Bar and Search Indexing off)

I think it boots a lot faster, I haven't actually timed it with either OS but I think it was in the region of 10 minutes with Vista from pressing the on button to actually being able to operate Firefox, on 7 it's more like 5. CPU usage is a lot lower.

Found a easier way.

download driver from here. http://america.giga-byte.com/FileList/Driver/motherboard_driver_bootdisk_sb600_win7-32.exe <-32 bit

http://america.giga-byte.com/FileList/Driver/motherboard_driver_bootdisk_sb600_win7-64.exe <- 64 bit

1. Extract and Copy the driver (ahcix86s.sys)
2. Go to C:\windows\system32\drivers and backup the driver ahcix86s.sys (likely has a 2007 date)
3. Paste new driver (ahcix86s) into this folder
4. DO NOT REBOOT
5. Run Windows 7 installer
6. done

hello

i am very new at this and so i dont know what you all are really talking about, but i have a problem and i strongly believe it is to do with this.
here my story; )
i have built my pc myself,
i have a gigabyte motherboard
nvidia 8600 512mb gfx
amd athlon 64 x2 dual core 4800+ 2.50 ghz processor.
2gb 800 mghz ram
i tried using vista on this set up, and i kept getting blue screen restart, randomly.
so like at any random point my pc would freeze and instantly go to blue scran dump my ram and restart. this was extremely annoying, so i went back to xp (this problem didnt happen on xp) now i recently installed windows 7 and it is stil happening, i am 99% sure it is to do with my drivers, i downloaded my motherboard drivers but they didnt help, at the same website i also found the ahcix86s file, i downloaded that but i dont know where to extract it or how to use it and i dont even know if it will help.

any ideas and help would be very appreciated.
