Hello,

I recently bought a new PC, some specs below:

Processor: AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition Processor
Operating System: Windows 7 64bit
RAM: 4 GB DDR2 RAM
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD5750 Graphics

It was working fine until I tried to update the driver for the graphics card. I was led to, Drivers & Support | GAME.AMD.COM, and downloaded ATI Catalyst™ 10.7 Suite for Windows 7 (64 bit).

During the install the computer crashed and restarted. Once it came back I kept getting a message saying there was no ATI driver installed and the resolution was reduced. There was also nothing being displayed under 'display' in dxdiag. I then ran the download again and chose 'uninstall' which seemed to bring it back, however there was no CCC. I then downloaded the CCC and tried to install it, the computer crashed again.

After that I had nothing showing up in 'display' for dxdiag again and under 'display adapters' in 'device manager' it is saying I have ATI Radeon 3100 graphics. Also I can only get an output on from my monitor through the VGA port whereas I was using the DVI port when all was fine.

Then after downloading and running this: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles...ateDriver.aspx (9.12 driver) It says I have ATI Radeon 3100 in my dxdiag. I managed to figure out with some help at other forums that the ATI Radeon 3100 was the integrated graphics and this was why I could get a display through the motherboard VGA port and not through the graphics card DVI port.

I turned my PC off overnight and after turning it back on the problem seemed to resolve itself (Dxdiag was recognizing and using the Radeon HD5750 again). I ran a game and all was well until my monitor switched off whilst I was away. I then couldn't get a display again. I plugged into the motherboard VGA port and once again am stuck to using the integrated 3100 graphics.

I have no idea how to get things back to as they were, any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for the welcome.

Unfortunately it won't allow me to perform any system restore. I have been trying to solve this problem all day and I haven't made any progress. On my last attempt I was advised to disable integrated graphics in the BIOS. This didn't work and I was forced to reset the CMOS in order to get a display back.

Could a failed driver update damage the graphics card in some way?

I don't think it had damaged your hardware...but you better stick for a while with your Manufacturer graphics drivers.

PS: you should fill your System Specs in the User CP in order to let us know which kind of Computer you're using.

I've updated my specs to the best of my knowledge.

The graphics card came pre-installed with the PC and I have no driver CD. I have downloaded the ATI Catalyst 10.3 drivers and as far as I am aware they are installed. I just get no DVI output from the graphics card port when the cable is connected and in my dxdiag + device manager the intergrated graphics (ATI Radeon 3100) is all that is showing when before the failed update it would have shown the ATI Radeon HD5750

That computer of yours has a nasty little Foxconn motherboard in it. That might be your problem. As a former Foxconn owner, I'll pass along a tip or two...

- Go into BIOS and make sure that the 5750 is set as the primary GPU, and not the integrated graphics.

- Don't plug into the IG output on boot up. Make sure that you're plugged into the 5750.

- Don't try to Hybrid Crossfire the system in BIOS. It doesn't work on Win 7 for those boards.

- Turn off "Surround View" in BIOS

I had many initial graphics problems with my old A7DA-S, just like you have. The Card should work fine, but I think that something in the BIOS settings is forcing the PC to select the IGP instead of the 5750.

Good luck, and post back to let us know how it goes.

There doesn't seem to be any way to set the 5750 as the primary GPU in the BIOS. The only information I could find relating to graphics was in the section 'Advanced chipset features' > 'Internal graphics configuration' and contained the following:
Internal graphics mode : Enable/Disable (Set to enabled)
UMA frame buffer size : Auto/64MB/128MB/256MB (Set to auto)
Surround view : Unselectable but set as disabled
Primary video controller: GFXO-GPP-IGFX-PCI/GPP-GFX0-IGFX-PCI/PCI-GFX0-GPP-IGFX/IGFX-GFX0-GPP-PCI (Set to GFXO-GPP-IGFX-PCI/GPP)

I get no signal at all on my monitor when I plug into the 5750.

It does seem that the IGP is being forced to be selected, however I can't seem to find any way to get the 5750 working again

My suggestions are in the quote in bold...

There doesn't seem to be any way to set the 5750 as the primary GPU in the BIOS. The only information I could find relating to graphics was in the section 'Advanced chipset features' > 'Internal graphics configuration' and contained the following:
Internal graphics mode : Enable/Disable (Set to enabled) Set to "Disabled"
UMA frame buffer size : Auto/64MB/128MB/256MB (Set to auto) Fine
Surround view : Unselectable but set as disabled Normal
Primary video controller: GFXO-GPP-IGFX-PCI/GPP-GFX0-IGFX-PCI/PCI-GFX0-GPP-IGFX/IGFX-GFX0-GPP-PCI (Set to GFXO-GPP-IGFX-PCI/GPP) Fine

I get no signal at all on my monitor when I plug into the 5750. Because your system is set to IGP

It does seem that the IGP is being forced to be selected, however I can't seem to find any way to get the 5750 working again

As indicated set the internal graphics mode to disabled.

I have previously tried setting integrated graphics to disabled and when I did I couldn't get any display at all. I got 3 beeps in POST and was forced to reset CMOS in order to be able to get a display from the motherboard VGA port.
