Attempts to log in to Telnet fail

Recently I bought a TP-Link TD-W8960N modem router to replace the ISP's Technicoor TG582N and it seems to have successfully installed.

With the old router I used an App called DSLStats to monitor my connection without problem.
Now there are problems such as

07 Jun 2014 13:37:13	Unable to login to modem/router
07 Jun 2014 13:38:13	No response to login user name.
07 Jun 2014 13:38:13	Unable to login to modem/router
07 Jun 2014 13:39:13	No response to login user name.
07 Jun 2014 13:39:13	Unable to login to modem/router

I was advised to telnet the router as part of the investigation of the problem.

I get through to 192.168.1.1 and the user name is accepted, but when i input the password it fails

Password:

telnetd:error:923.577:processInput:429:unrecognized command admin

Nowhere can I find what that error ID means. Can anyone advise what the error ID is telling me, and how to deal with ti, please?

Did you put your old username and password in the new router?

Yes at initial set up, then to log in to the router to edit settings the router's default name and password.

IF you entered a password and username that should override the default login.

Sorry I don't get that!

First input was [email protected] to set router to ISP

the second name and password was to configure other router settings. Iwas doing exactly the same as I woud with ISP's router

rundwald, please correct me if I`m wrong but if I read it correctly you first installed the router.
And then when you got problems you try to log in trough telnet?

So this is the first time you log in on the router with telnet.
I know that some devices need to have an addition to the password.

Have the same with my NAS.
For example if you password is 1234 you have to type in telnet soho1234 as your password.
The soho is sometimes needed before the password, try it out.

Thanks for the thought, but also now I enter telnet 192.168.1.1 and as expected the login request follows, that dealt with the password request does likewise. There I am stumped. I attempt to enter the word but nothing appears om screen and the cursor is static.

AAMOI I am reading on other forums of people having serious set up problems with TPLink routers,so it could be a faulty batch. If I don't solve it soon I shall return the router to seller.
