Audio/Video Stutter/Hesitation

You have 2 options.

the easiest way, with least amount of things to set

Shark007 codec pack
youll need the win 7 version AND the 64bit add-on if you plan to use the codecs in WMC
It has everything you'll need already set up, and even the option to have any direct show player use whichever codecs you want... Win7s or FFD show

you can also DL each seperatly and install, but will require some configuring.

Please list your audio equipment.

Also, indexing first has to index and with large disks and libraries this can take time.

You can review in indexing options if the index has completed building or not.

I do not suggest turning it off.

Audio is from motherboard (Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R) and is a Realtek ALC888 high def audio.

Indexing is complete, not that there was much to index yet - it's a brand new setup and a couple of mp3s on it (for testing).
Equipment = Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R with intel i7 quad, 8gb ram, win7 64bit, 2 ati radeon HD460 (1gb), 2 150gb drives in raid-1, 4 1tb drives in raid10. Brand new install, and no other programs running.

My IT guy just tested on several Win7 systems and the 64-bit versions all have this problem, and the 32-bit versions do not.

Load the media player of your choice and give it this URL: JBServers.net :: Shoutcast Control Panel or you can give it SHOUTcast Administrator or you can go to shoutcast or Live365 and load other streams. It's only happening on streaming media. Anything that downloads a file (such as YouTube, or m3u lists or d/l of mp3, etc.) will be just fine, it's just streaming that is an issue on x64. And, works great if I run a VM of XP.

Also, something else I've done (and is my workaround for now), I have my old PC next to it, streaming the stations, outputting to the line-in of the Win7 and routing that to the speakers - no pausing or blips this way either.

I'm having the same problem. It doesn't seem to occur with stored music, just internet radio (di.fm). My hardware is more than adequate. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. The internet connection is perfect, and I didn't have this problem under Vista 32 bit on the same setup. Interestingly, if I set WMP to buffer for the maximum 60 seconds, there is no skipping in that first 60 seconds. Also, the stuttering is intermittent. It can be find for an hour, then stutter terribly for another hour.

Same Problem Here

New machine running win7 64bit, media played from disc is fine but anything streaming is rubbish. Problem is not so bad if the file is fully buffered but still freezes for a second, just not as much.

Seems like a bunch of ppl have this problem but no one has any answers??

Similar problem here. I've tried playing audio (mp3) and video (avi) files in MediaPortal and WMP and I get random stuttering in both. Here's my hardware setup:

Gigabyte GA-MA785GT-UD3H motherboard (built in graphics and audio)
3.00 gigahertz AMD Athlon II X2 250 PCU
2 GB RAM

The hardware was bought new a week ago and a clean install of Win 7 is on it. No codec packs, just ffdshow and Haali Media Splitter. 95% of the time things are fine but then the video/audio will stutter for a while then go back to normal. I've turned off indexing and system restore on all drives except my system partition. I have two other hard drives, one for music (320GB) and one for video (1 TB). None need defragmenting.

Any suggestions?

I've also been having this issue. Currently its less noticable withvideo but very noticeable with audio. Avi's etc is not too bad, live tv not to bad, but unbeleivable with any disc in the DVD drive.

My current system is AMD Athlon 64 X2vDual Core 6000+ (3ghtz),

Ram 2 gig DDR2

2 * 1tb WD
Pioneer DVR 216
Video NVDIA GeForfce 8600 GT
SB Audio
WinFast DTV2000 H
OS Win7 Ult RTM

All drivers are upto date except as only nvdia 169.xxxxxxxx is the only one that works with my moniter.

This is testing my memory but I remember a similar problem with Vista or Win7 RC1 (there abouts) and I beleive the problem at the was an update from ms. Its too long ago to remmber exact details.

Hope this is helpful, & I'm looking for a solution this stutter is driving me nuts.

Are all of you using HDMI? I thought it might have something to do with that. I've also changed all my power settings so nothing automatically turns off of hibernates. I've not noticed the problem since I tweaked that but I'm not ready to say the problem has been solved.

I have upgraded the RAM and the HDD.
I'm currently using VGA, as to use HDMI causes audio feedback in the TVs speakers when there is no audio signal only video going into the tv. So stuck with VGA.

For my problem (only stutters for live music streams, not download or stored media), I'm using both VGA and HDMI (2 cards, 4 monitors - 2 are hdmi). I have a hard time believing the video cabling to be the issue when I can get a crystal clear Line In signal and immediately send it right out to the speakers, or perfect playback of downloaded or stored media. It's only on live streaming radio, on Win7-64. My IT guy confirmed it on 2 other W7-64 PCs outside our network and compared them to W7-32. The W7-32 machines did NOT stutter.

Interestingly, I just tried some live video feeds (with audio) and they don't have this problem on my PC.

Just to add potential data points, I get stuttering, and I did on Vista as well.

I now run 32 bit Windows 7 Premium, and I have noticed that when I am watching I use about 40% of my CPU (2.6 Ghz AMD dual core) regardless of the window size in WMC or WMP. I just happened to be glancing at my CPU Meter gadget when I got stuttering earlier today, and I obviously don't know which was causative, but during the stuttering my CPU usage jumped to 100% or close to it during the time it was stuttering then dropped back down to 40%.

The overall duration, when it happens, is shorter and the stutter is faster in Windows 7 than it was on Vista. It seems to impact video and audio... If my Vista experience is equivalent to a person stuttering, in Windows 7 it is equivalent to someone rolling their r's.

It seems that mine happens mostly when watching TV (either live or recorded) but this could be because that is the media viewing I do most often is DVR playback or live tv.

OK, this is habby, and I'm pretty sure this is a microsoft problem. I am a video editor by trade. I use 2 computers so while one is cooking I can edit on the other. That way I can leapfrog thru my work. I had vista on both computers ever since it came out. I always kept my microsoft updates updated. All was fine until service pack 2 came out. There was that darn video stutter. It would hang when you hit the play button for 2 or 3 seconds then straighten out. I uninstalled service pack 2 and the stutter was gone on both computers. Then I did a clean install of windows 7 and there was the old stutter back. Whatever was in service pack 2 for vista must have already been installed on the windows 7 disc. We can only hope microsoft will fix it.
